Happy Birthday Baby!!

This coming Friday, September 29th marks three important milestones. One, our own original SpyBaby Syd turns two years old. Two years old people! TWO! Sydney (yes, her name is actually Sydney- Sydney Jane and I love her to bits) was born one year previous to the second important milestone- the premiere of the final season of 'Alias'- so appropriate, as her mother is the one who got me hooked in the first place.

Thirdly and perhaps amazingly enough- September 29th also marks the birth of my baby-
Let's Talk Alias! Can you believe it??? My blog is all grown up. Okay, I know I am still a newbie in the world of blogs, but man, has it really been a year?

To celebrate, I ask that you all send in a pick for your favorite article posted- by me or by a guest. Also, send in your favorite comments or perhaps a funny moment from the blog.

All in all, the last year has been amazing! I have met all of you, I learn something new everyday and I have had a blast hashing out the fabulousness that is my favorite show.
Viva Alias and Happy Birthday my little SpyBaby!!

PS. Are you just dying to get your hands on the season 5 DVD? I am dying! Hurry up already!

Ariana Kane Frame By Paul

Thanks to Blogger Paul for the article.

Many of you may remember the introduction of Ariana Kane, the woman who Sloane requested to investigate the blackmailing of Sloane over his failure to kill his wife, Emily. As the story progresses, Ariana finds that Jack has secrets, and although she cannot prove Jack was behind the blackmail, eventually captures him and has him strapped down to a chair, minutes away from revealing that he and Sydney are double agents. Now Jack, through his own investigation, finds that Ariana Kane was the lover of Jean Briault, which gave her the necessary motive to blackmail Sloane. Jack finds that Ariana opened an account and deposited the $100 million in bonds just long enough to convert them to cash, and believes that she is framing him to cover her tracks. Jack is able to alert Sloane in time, Sloane intervenes, and Ariana Kane is presumably killed. There was a scene right after this where Jack and Irina are talking to each other, and they both have come up with the same theory...that Ariana Kane would have been easy to frame, and Sloane had specifically requested her. Jack finished off this conversation with the words, "Interesting theory...or not."

Now, at that point, we did not have enough information to ascertain whether or not Ariana WAS behind the blackmail scheme or if she had been set up. However, with all of the information given to us by the end of season 2, I believe we have enough to draw a conclusion. It has always been my thought that Sloane knew Jean Briault and Ariana Kane were lovers, after all Sloane and Briault were close friends. It was made clear that Sloane requested Ariana Kane specifically to come to SD-6 in the mole hunt...then after Sloane followed up Jack's leads (or maybe he didn't!), Sloane revealed to Jack that he had killed Jean Briault and gave that to him as a lead!

This of course then led Jack and Irina to the hotel tapes in Peru where they found Ariana Kane! Then, at the end of the very next episode, we see that Emily is still alive and Sloane maneuvered the entire situation! The blackmailer supposedly killed Emily. Ariana would not have faked Emily's death had she been the blackmailer...she would have killed Emily as an act of revenge. Everything about the clues that were left 'torturing' Sloane would have been very difficult for Ariana to leave, and very easy for Sloane to fake! It now seems clear that Sloane maneuvered that entire situation to set up Ariana Kane as a sacrificial lamb, just as Jack maneuvered the frame of Russek to protect Sydney in season 1.Now this raises another daunting question...WHY? What was the purpose? As Irina mentioned during their investigation, there must have been many other ways to blackmail the Alliance, all far less elaborate. Nobody knew Emily was alive hiding out in the small beach bungalow, so why go through this complicated plan and have Emily chop off her ring finger? This bugged me for a while until I remembered the "blackmailer's" demands...$100 million! That's quite a chunk of change for anyone, and don't forget Sloane is only a few episodes away at this point from maneuvering the destruction of the Alliance. The Alliance refused to give the blackmailer the money, it was Sloane who convinced them to pay the money and place a tracker on it.

Now let's go to the scene where Sloane was to drop off the money in Season 2: Episode 9. Sloane received a phone call to leave the briefcase on the bench and walk away. Sloane gets up and walks away...we see the briefcase in the shot as Sloane gets up and begins walking, and then less than 10 seconds later, the shot pans down and the briefcase is already gone! We don't see anyone in the shot walk by, so the odds are that as soon as Sloane turned his back, somene grabs it from behind! Just a few more seconds later, and we see Marshall dancing around excitedly about his invisible liquid tracer and then panicking as he loses the signal. Marshall placed a tracker on the Rambaldi tissue in season 3 that the DSR and then the Covenant didn't find! Who else other than Sloane would have known about Marshall's liquid tracer and how to disable it so quickly? We never see Sloane upset about losing the money, do we? :)I believe Sloane decided that having to kill Emily was the final straw and so he hid her away and came up with this plan to extort $100 million from the Alliance and frame Ariana Kane for it. Later on, he had the Alliance destroyed. I also believe that this was preemptive strike on Sloane's part. Ariana Kane was the head of Alliance Counter-Intelligence, but she was not a partner. Therefore, she probably was unaware of Sloane's murdering Jean Briault.

However, he may have been concerned she would find out and concerned about potential revenge on Ariana Kane's part. Even for Sloane, she would have been a powerful enemy. I believe this may have been his motivation to get rid of her. This plan seems outrageously elaborate, but at the end of the day, he eliminated a potential enemy, kept his wife, and walked away from the Alliance with a nice little nest egg to continue his pursuit of Rambaldi!

Now it's your turn! What do you think?

Notes from Under the Telly

Hi,

It's me, Girlscout (aka Kiki, as of late), your fearless (and exhausted) blog master. Long time!

Now that things are in a rhythm over at PTP (Primetime Princesses- and if you haven't check it out, gettcha ass over there!) I now have a little (a tad, a smiggen) of time to spend with my first love- Alias.

I popped in my Alias soundtracks yesterday morning (Sandy, they are coming, still sitting on my desk-damn it!) and relived every single one of my favorite scenes. I wanted to cry. It was the first time in a long time that I wanted to cry- or at least get angry about the cancellation. There were photos out and about on the internet of JG at the premiere of Hollywoodland (starring Mr. JG Ben Affleck. The movie is fab- go see it!) and I wanted to yell at them- at the pictures. I wanted to shake my fists and yell- WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY??? And, sadly, I see the commericals for Six Degrees and I want to kick the TV. Kick it. Because damn it, if JJ wasn't so busy mulling over new ideas for TV greatness, Alias would still be alive.

So, I have made a vow- I, Girlscout, hereby swear that I will spend my winter TV hiatus rewatching every season of Alias until I vomit tranq guns and comms, and until Rambaldi signs can be seen in my eyeballs.

I also swear to be more attentive to your needs, my little bloggies. I promise to post more often- even though technically LTA is on hiatus and I promise, promise, the minute I get my filthy, TV-loving-plot picking hands on my season 5 DVD, I will be back blogging like I have never blogged before!! I typed that all in one breathe! Phew!

So, I am back, and as you can see from the Screen Cap below, SRG is back as well. Long time my good friend. Long time. I was beginning to think perhaps you, too had been cancelled.

TA TA for now! ~GS

Scene Cap of the Week

"Not if I see you first, love."

Man I loved that moment. This episode from season 3 entitled "Taken" is probably one of my least favorites of the season, but that end moment, the second where you know that Jack knows, is so worth it. I remember seeing it for the first time and being so excited because I knew this meant Lauren would (eventually) be found out. If Jack suspects you of something, there's no way in hell you'll get away with it. I think one of the best things about that ending was Jack had just commended Lauren and Vaughn on "helping" Dixon, not knowing Lauren had really done it all just for the Covenant. Her making that one little slip cost her everything in the end.

This was not-so-much a cliffhanger episode ending, but more like a moment of realization that from then on things were going to be different, something big was about to happen. What other Alias "realization" moments come to mind for you?

Sark News

Hi All,

As you well know, Sark is still out there, on the prowl, no doubt flirting with unsuspecting CIA agents and causing a ruckus, but his counterpart, David Anders has just finished his first film. This is where you say, "What? What film? What's it about? When does it come out?" The film is called Left in Darkness and from the looks of the promos- it's a horror film. Oooh, the best kind! Here is a snippet on the film:

Left In Darkness illuminates the story of Celia (Keena), a troubled girl whose tortured past places her in spiritual and physical limbo. Her mother died in childbirth, and she always felt responsible for the tragedy. When her father disappeared, her grandparents raised her. As she got older, her sense of guilt grew deeper. And on the night of her 21 st birthday, Celia is drugged, raped and dies of an accidental overdose at a wild college frat party. But for her, it's just the beginning: Trapped in a netherworld between sanctuary and damnation, Celia must now battle the demons – including hordes of horrific Soul Eaters – that prowl the Afterlife. Is the spirit of her recently deceased grandfather ( Thomerson ) trying to lure her to an eternity of suffering? Can her guardian angel ( Anders ) safely lead her to the other side? Is there any way to go towards the light when your soul is Left In Darkness ?

(Um, so, David Anders can be my guardian angel anyday... oh and um, Sark playing an angel, that is a horror story in itself!) The film is set to be released on DVD September 19th and guess what? Yours truly gets her very own copy to review! So, we will hear all about it at Let's Talk first! That is if I survive the viewing- I may need to coax my roomies into holding me during the scary stuff! Stay tuned for the review and more information on where you can purchase your own copy! Get geared up, he may not be sporting his posh British accent, but he's still got the blonde and the baby blues! Swoon!

Scene Cap of the Week

"Hi honey!"
Um, hilarious scene, serisouly. First, Sydney in that outfit. Second, the little wormy guy in his underwear. And third, Vaughn walking in so nonchalantly. LOVE IT!
I always love how Syd and Vaughn seem to have so much fun on missions. Remember when they had to defuse the C4 at SD-6? Super serious mission, but they still had fun. The bar in scene in season 4, super hot and super fun. Remember the mission when they have to find a man before the Covenant, and they have to identify him by his facial reconstruction? Vaughn asks Syd whether or not he shouldget his nose fixed. She says "Maybe a little tapering." HAHA!
Can you name other missions in which Syd and Vaughn share some funny moments? There are tons!
