17 Days

It has been 17 days since we lost Alias. It seems like forever ago. My DVD’s are sitting patiently on the entertainment center- next to the TV- each box leaning on the other. I stare at them as I turn on the TV to watch 30 Minute Meals with Rachael Ray or American Justice on A&E. I think about them when I am nestled in bed for the night- making a mental list of my favorite moments. I dust them off when company comes, but for the most part, they sit there, untouched- existing in a world of cardboard and paper.

When are you going to watch them, you ask? I will watch them when the sting goes away, when I stop rehashing the finale in my head, trying to make sense of it all. I will watch them when I can’t bare the thought of living without seeing Vaughn’s furrowed brow and Sydney’s dimples. I will watch them when I can’t remember what Jack’s voice sounds like or Will’s laugh. It will be a rainy Sunday, no doubt, drops of sky patting the windows in the front room. The house will be quiet- the cat blinking slowly, the dog dreaming about long runs. I will pour myself a shot of tequila (for the elephant in the room) and I will watch Alias all over again. It could be this Sunday, or the next, or maybe a rainy Sunday a year from now. Either way, the DVD’s will still be there, leaning on each other (as I do on all of you), waiting.

wow GS, you certainly do paint a gloomy picture. :-\ It does bring me to ask myself when I will start rewatching my 4 seasons of DVDs as well. It will probably happen when I'm able to preorder my season 5 set so I'll know how to time my rewatching to coinside with that delivery. Yeah, sounds anal, but what can I say, I'm a graphic designer, it's in my nature. :)

I just re-read it and it does sound rather gloomy doesn't it. I am not depressed about it- I just can't bring myself to watch them yet.

I totally understand, I'm not there yet either GS.

GS-
I can so relate. But, I remember the advice we got when our previous dog died. Someone told us the best thing to do is get a new dog ASAP. If we had it would have saved us a lot of grief.

Alias is not a pet that can be replaced by a new puppy, because there simply aren't any other puppies out there. But, I found that making myself start watching S1 has helped. We'll never really get over the untimely death of Alias, but it will help...some.

It'd be a great book, GS.

wow liz, then you're in for a real treat when you finally catch the whole pilot eppy (or buy the DVDs). The pilot is still my second favorite episode (behind Phase One) of the entire show, so I hope you can see it soon! And yes I think GS could write an awesome book, I love her writing style and would definitely read it!

You'll have to pardon Slingshot- she's my sister and she thinks I can just magically write a book. Ain't that simple sis.

GS, I think you should try to watch season 1 (or any season) again sooner than later. I think it will soothe your soul. I just rewatched the pilot last week and it was such a fun and rich experience for 2 reasons: 1) it was so great to watch and remember how I felt seeing some of those things for the first time (like Jack: "I don't sell airplane parts, I never sold airplane parts!" and EMETIB) and 2) knowing what I know now about the characters, it was so interesting to watch how they were introduced to us for the first time and appreciating their complexity on a different level (example, when Syd was talking to Francie about how she was so excited to be engaged to Danny, Francie says, "Syd, your mom would be so proud." ha!) now that we know how it ends, it will be so intriguing to watch the parts all over again. those characters are like old friends, you know? no matter how we feel about the finale, the show has so many layers that I know we still have more to discover.
anyway, my 2 cents. and yes, I definatlely think you should write a book, most of your material has already been written, wouldn't you agree? and writing is such good therapy! you definately have the talent. Liz, have fun w/ the pilot! its amazing, truly the alias that we love!

Three or 4 times a week I still do a Google search for Alias news (i.e. movie, spinoff...SEASON 6). Only good news I've found so far is that Jennifer turned down a role in Dallas. Imagine going from playing the selfless, heroic Sydney Bristow to playing a hard-drinking, gold digging Southfork tart. Oh, the humanity!

Hahaha, Anon, you are hilarious! I saw that too. Good thing, because JLO is lined up to do Dallas and we know she has a movie curse, not to mention that she used to date JG's hubby.

Yeah, as a guy, I would consider planting a hug on Michael Vartan, too, just knowing that's as close as I could ever get to an actual Vulcan mind meld with the beautifully appointed Jennifer Garner herself, at least without facing numerous charges and a fair amount of public ridicule, possibly even an impromptu martial arts demonstration for which I would have no likelihood of survival.
