Full Circle Finale

It is the end- but today is still Alias Day! My spirits are surprisingly high and that is because FINALLY we get the answers! FINALLY!

Like I mentioned in Wednesday's recap- we are back where we started- Sydney is determined to bring Sloane down and to finally live in peace and happiness with the people she loves. This determination, however, may cost others their lives. Sloane is just as determined, if not more so, to see Rambaldi's true work come to life. His entire life has been centered on the prophet since his days in the Army Corp of Engineers, and all his life's work will come down to a face off with Sydney Bristow- a woman at the center of Rambaldi's prophecy. Sydney is the Chosen One- and I believe she is the only one who can stop Sloane and save the world from "utter desolation."How she will stop him and who will be sacrificed is anyone's guess.

Sloane left Sydney with a chilling phone call, much like he did in season 2 on Sydney's graduation day. He warned her not to come after him, knowing full well she would and he did it again. Why coax her if she is the one who can foil his plan? Is he drawing her in for a reason? How is Grace's connection to Korman and the Cardinal relevant to P5 and the endgame?

PS. This is the space to post all of your reactions to the finale. Once again, please keep it short and sweet. Enjoy!! And don't forget to read the tribute blog below!

this day reminds me of when we watched the finale of the 1st season- we were moving across the country that weekend so we had a cake at our finale party that said "goodbye Lisa and Sydney." I think I'll make some Rambaldi symbol shaped cookies tonite. ha! do you guys remember where you were that first season ending, when they hit us with Vaughn getting swallowed up by the liquid from the ball, and Syd meeting her captor....saying, "mom?" our first season ending shocker! love it!

I tend to feel really sorry for Sloane. The traggedy in his life beginning with the loss of Jaquelyn and his wife's rejection of his comforting efforts began him on the Rambaldi path out of curiosity, which led to obsession, which led to megalamania and now demintia as he halucinates his daughter by his side. Due to his obsession he put his wife in harms way and she was accedentally killed.Due to his obsession, his daughter was caught up in a mad-woman's desire for universal anarchy, and he had to personally put a bullet in her, and eventually see that she was put into an induced coma for an entire year. Due to his irrational obsession, he accedentally killed his long-lost daughter. The man simply cannot seem to help himself. He knows full well how his life has been spent in folly, but he labors on, being only propelled by having nothing left in his life upon which to focus. He has nothing left to live for, and his guilt is eating him alive and riving him further into madness. Death for Sloane is not justice, nor revenge; it would be the most humane thing that could happen to the poor wretch.

I whole-heartedly agree Lhaaheim!! Sloane has had plenty of chances to earn our pity. NO MORE! He has never cared about anyone but himself, and even if it seemed like he cared about Nadia and Sydney- it was all for his own benefit. Short live evil Sloane!

SKlaft said...

LOL...

I am thus persuaded!

I guess I have felt the same way, but I kind-a wanted us to get away from "he's a dirty rat, and always has been" kind of thinking. I wanted to see him as a human being who made terrible decisions and terrible mistakes. Of course he deserves what he is about to get (in just over two hours!).

Y'all are cool!

Check the pics, she is making the same face- she's even wearing the same watch! Weird. So weird.

I agree that if justice is served, Sloane deserves the worst punishment possible without mercy or compassion. However, I also agree with Robby that he is tragic. That's part of what makes Alias so great - the complexity and depth of the characters, sometimes juxtaposed with the fantastical nature of the storyline. Sloane is not one-dimensional that's what makes us both hate and pity him at the same time, that's what enables him to manipulate Syd & the others into giving him another chance, it's what we see when we get a glimpse of his genuine care for Sydney and his genuine grief that Nadia is gone. Then in the next moment, we see his utter depravity of moral goodness when he chooses Rambaldi above honor, decency & most of all love. His actions make a mockery of any shred of decency or caring he may exhibit. It's what he could have been that makes him tragic. We see those glimpses, we see his talents and expertise, and on some level we realize just what he's given up to commit to "the dark side."

I'm a little jumpy right now with less than an hour to go.

My brother has a baseball game and he's supposed to be home in time, but it's gone into extra innings... I need him and my mom to get home so I can pick up my friend to watch the finale. With only 33 minutes left, I'm feeling a little like Jack Bauer...

uncle111 said...

Oh my!!! Rambaldi is now alive in Sloane, who's come back to life.

uncle111 said...

Irina tried to kill Syd and Vaughn is shooting Sark to get the codes.
Nukes are aborted.
Syd kills Irina, sort of. Jack blows himself up to entomb Sloane.

What a Happy Family!! I LOVE that Sloane is going to spend eternity stuck underground!! HAHA!!! Does anyone know why Irina was wanting to blow up Washington and New York???
Good Ending but I am sad that its over!!! I am glad that they had that little blurb at the end..."thanks for an Incredible 5 years"

Sarafu said...

UGHHHHH......That was me again, not Des!!! Sorry! Lots of people are using my computer. :)

RUDY said...

It was Washington and London, I think.

SKlaft said...

Daniel said...

Rudy,
Has anyone ever told you that you look a lot like Jennifer Garner?

RUDY said...

That is actually a protrait of Holly Marie Combs, she is my second favorite actress (next to Jen of course). But I am brown head and height about the same, though.

uncle111 said...

You know, I wasn't surprised when Sloane revived. When I was playing 47_TheMan over on ABC and thinking about how I would have it end I saw very clearly in my mind Sloane, dead, suddenly opening his eyes and smiling. No joke!

Andrew said...

Wow!

SPOILER WARNING

I feel content, and pleased with... everything.

It's a shame Irina never gave up on her thirst for power. She had awesome grandmother material... yeah right. She was always my favorite character...

Next to Jack. Sweet to see a touching goodbye between father and daughter, once estranged. Awesome that he entombed Sloane and sacrificed himself for the sake of the world... and his daughter.

I so called little Jack's name before Sydney introduced him to his Uncle Dixon (glad he's good by the way). If Isabelle's smart, she'll keep quiet about that puzzle.

Why oh why did Sydney have that puzzle? Good memories?

Great to see Merrin Dungey as GOOD Francie for a brief moment.

I loved the closure without feeling "final." Not flashing "ALIAS" at the end was a nice way to say this is it, thanks for watching, but the story lives on.

Thanks for a wonderful 5 years, to the entire cast and crew. ABC tried to kill you, but you still went out with an amazing ending.

SKlaft said...

I taped 24 so I could watch Alias. How will I ever get over this conclusion to watch 24's?

Its too much.
UGH!

Andrew said...

Robby,
My original plan was to watch 24 tonight after ALIAS was done, but I don't want to now. I couldn't care less about Jack Bauer.

What an ending!

Did anyone catch when Dixon said the name of the Pilot episode in the final scene "Truth Be Told."?

That was a full circle moment for me.

I also enjoyed that Sloane is buried underneath a rock that has the <0> on it.

uncle111 said...

You know, all someone has to do is excavate the site and find Sloane and free him. Then we have a criminal Sloane who can't be killed--maybe.

SKlaft said...

Sounds like the story for the big screen, Uncle

I ripped about 4 of my nails off while watching that incredible finale (a la Marshall, I guess ;))
It was amazing..after the recap tomorrow I think everything that's foggy right now will clear up.

Anonymous said...

Oh, did anyone catch the stunt choreographer in 2 scenes? Hes the guy that was on some special features in (at least) the s1 dvd.
The scenes he was in were: 1. Rachel and Marshall were held captive..I believe Rachel shot him (maybe Syd) and 2.Outside the cave with the Rambaldi sign..I believe he was shot in that scene also..just thought it was funny and a cute thing to do for the people involved in the creation of alias.

Hey, if anyone misses something on Alias, or wants to watch it again a million times without the rewind...

http://dynamic.abc.go.com/streaming/landing

It's Alias full eps, ONLINE! FREE!!!
THE WHOLE SEASON! Not without a few sponsers, though. But still, it's great to be able to watch it again! As soon as the series finale gets uploaded...

Oooh, I sound like an ad. I don't mean to. But I loved it when Jack...and Marshall...and I miss Tom already...and Sloane, that evil son of...

Still, I believe the series finale could've been somewhat better. But I missed a few non-crucial scenes, so I have have have to watch it again. Then again, there's Disney, so I don't know how much good stuff I missed...

::sniff::

I'll miss Sydney Ann Bristow.

Going through divorce with the partner you love is like been in hell, my husband filed for a divorce without giving me reasons. I was totally down for I had no idea of what was happening and I tried to confront him to know what led to such action but he didn't give me listening ears.. I tried getting to know what happened through his family members but that didn't work either and this time was going mad about everything till I searched for help online and I came across Lord Zakuza contact number +1 (740) 573 9483 and I messaged him to let him know what I was going through and Lord Zakuza encouraged and promised to help me with his powerful spell and within 48 hours after contacting Lord Zakuza and followed all his instructions, my attorney called me to get me informed that the divorce case has been cancelled and after 30 minutes, I got a call from my husband pleading and begging for forgiveness and right now we are back together with so much love and care.
