I have to hand it to the director(s) with this one, the reveal of Irena's reflection behind the glass as the director of Sydney's torturing in Horizon was a total shock for me. Before the episode aired many fans speculated that Irena was behind Syd's kidnapping, but I didn't think it was her simply because I never thought she would be able to torture her pregnant daughter. Once again I underestimated the writers and the lengths Irena will go to get what she wants. It made me think of what she said to Syd in the season 4 finale "You might not see me (on your wedding day), but I'll see you". On the surface it appears that Irena is once again using Syd for her own agenda, however, I do believe that it's a case of the ends justifying the means where it will somehow be in Syd's favor that this happened. Here are some questions this situation brings up:
1. If Irena needed some information from Syd, why did she feel she needed to take it by force? In the s4 finale they parted on good terms, I don't see why kidnapping was necessary unless Irena's trying to fool someone (ahem...P5...ahem) into thinking she's really a "bad guy". Perhaps she also had to remain anonymous from Syd for now as well...
2. What will happen to Irena when she (and probably P5) realizes the information she recovered from Syd is incorrect?
3. Irena definitely seemed like she was "above" Peyton when they were talking, what kind of position does she hold with P5?
We obviously don't have any of these answers yet, but it's interesting to ponder before the season starts back up...

I just rewatched this episode today, and I have to tell you that I'm still stuck. This episode is definitely an ALIAS episode, for I can't find my way out when I follow any plot in. Hopefully some answers will present itself in the next new episode back, because I'm hanging by a thread with crazy, bombarding thoughts. Please HURRY Alias! I need a fix and some calm.
I hear ya rudy!!
Have I mentioned that I screamed out loud, twice, when I watched this episode? I was afraid the neighbors were going to come check on me. However, I believe that somehow, Irina being behind this whole thing is NOT a bad thing. She would never hurt Syd. Truly hurt Syd. Yes, she shot her in the arm. Yes, she betrayed Jack, Syd and the CIA... However, I still don't think her purposes in doing whatever she's doing will in any way harm Sydney in the long run. I, too, am waiting for answers and can't wait to see what happens. But if they make Irina a "bad guy" in the end, I will be really upset. Sloane=bad guy, fine. Even Dixon. But not Irina.
Yes I'm totally with you both birdie and jenn. I too was completely stunned when I saw Irena's reflection, I never thought it was going to be her! I also agree that if they make her out to actually be a "bad guy" I would be hugely disappointed, that's just not the image of Irena we've gotten over the last few years, even with all of her betrayals and "questionable" behavoir. Through it all it seems she still genuinely loves her daughter and will always do what's best for her. If someone does die in the end it wouldn't surprise me if it's Irena, trying to do something to save Syd, the baby and/or Jack. That seems like it would be the ultimate redeemer for her.
Even though Irina would be a great shocker, I hope it is not her. I'd rather have Dixon, Nadia or Sloane die.
