The Jerks from the DSR were in possession of the Rambaldi cube, which contained the prophet’s DNA. Sydney and Will had tracked the DNA to Gras, where they battled Sark and Alison for the cube. Enroute to the DSR facility, Project Blackhole, the cube was stolen by Sark and his Rambaldi cronies. Back at his mad science lab in Patagonia, Sark began mixing recipes for Rambaldi offspring- Rambaldi’s DNA and Sydney’s harvested eggs.
This would be the first time we would consider the possibility of Sydney being a mother. But all thoughts and ideas related to motherhood were burned when Sydney, with Dixon’s permission, scorched Sark’s lab. That is, until now. With Sydney’s impending motherhood looming, we can only refer back to Rambaldi and his prophecy that Sydney would be the one to bring forth his works in the form of a child. It would impossible for us not to connect these two very important storylines, as we are on the brink of discovering the purpose of Prophet 5 and who or what Horizon is.
There have been some valid points made about whether or not Sydney is carrying Rambaldi’s baby. We would all love to be confident in the idea that Sydney is mothering Vaughn’s child, as their love has been the glue to the lasting affection we have for the show and for the characters. Take some of these points into consideration-
1. Though the lab was torched, Sark was able to escape. Was he able to smuggle out a test tube of Sydney’s eggs and Rambaldi’s DNA?
2. Vaughn and Sydney are very active Black-Ops agents, it would be conceivable (pardon the pun) that they would take precautions to protect themselves from creating offspring. Alas, heat of the moment should be considered. We all know how hot Syd and Vaughn are!
3. It seems odd or coincidental that upon Sydney learning of her pregnancy that Vaughn would “die” and that P5 would come into play based off a 15th century prophecy.
4. As we saw in the last episode, Jack and Renee stumbled upon a makeshift nursery. What possible purpose could Sydney and Vaughn’s baby have in P5? It seems more likely that a child of Rambaldi would be more important.
Do not view this article as proof that Sydney is in fact carrying Rambaldi’s baby. I strongly believe the little booger growing inside her is part Vaughn. But, we are talking about Alias here. There will be plenty of twists and turns to end the series, and we can not ignore the possibility that Rambaldi will play a main part in not only the outcome of the show, but in Sydney’s life, baby related or not.
What are your thoughts? Are there any other episodes or instances that back up the idea of a Rambaldi baby? Are there any that disprove this or support the Bristow-Vaughn baby?
Thanks to Dignan for sparking this blog article. Many of these points were mentioned in Dignan's comments.

The thought that Syd's baby is somehow Rambaldi's is far-fetched... but then what isn't concerning Alias? I think all the points you brought up are valid GS. I'm just not sure (as with Jenn) how they will write in Syd being impregnated somehow without her knowledge. It is convenient for that unknown someone who might do something like that though, that she automatically assumes the baby to be Vaughn's. There is no question raised as to the father ... at least not yet. It will be very interesting to see if the show does somehow twist on us! I'm curious!! Can't wait for this theory to be proved... or disproved!
I know, I considered this too. There are plenty of explanations the writer's could conjure up, but I don't think any of them would sit right with the viewers. We can believe that Sydney and Vaughn rolled in the hay even though we didn't see them actually do it, or that it was illuded to. It's harder to sell the idea of her being impregnanted with Rambalkdi's baby without us actually seeing it. That's why I say it's Vaughn's kid.
I think it's Vaughn's kid. What I'm wondering is if Vaughn isn't somehow related to Rambaldi? Maybe through his European ancestry or something?
I wrote a novel about a woman who has a caveman's baby when she goes to a sperm clinic to be impregnanted with her late husband's sperm. A mad scientist type there merely substitutes the DNA string. After all, it's the DNA that matters . . .
Hmm. Good article! Very provocative.

I'll reiterate my response to dignan's original theory (cuz I'm lazy and don't feel like forming a new response lol!)
I love Full Disclosure, one of my fav Alias eppies. My impression has always been that the egg fertilization (the guy squirting the liquid in the petri dish) was going on right before Syd & Co. showed up to save the day. Of course that might be wishful thinking that all of that was burned up by Syd, it's tough to decide because they rarely show the travel time between destinations. I honestly would be disappointed if they made her baby Rambaldi's or something like that, it's a bit too X-Files for me (was a great show but it's not Alias). And yes, you'd think Syd and Vaughn would know better to use protection, but obviously the writers didn't plan on JG getting pregnant, so they had to deal w/ real life fitting in with the characters. Any kind of protection is still only 99%, there's always that possibility of a little guy getting through. I know it's not real life, but if anyone else is a Friends fan, you'll remember that Rachel got pregnant even though she and Ross used protection.
Nice Jenn!! The prophecy doesn't say it has to be Rambaldi's baby! Good point! Obviously P5 wants something from this baby and I suppose we are just going to have to wait and see, as the baby isn't even born yet!
Perhaps (and that is a capital "P") the answer lies with the fanatical dilettantes from the Order of Rambaldi - the folks who have been misusing Rambaldi's inventions. They firmly believe that Syd is "the Chosen One" and have been known to do nearly any attrocious act to force their interpretaion of Rambaldi's "prophesies" into being. (Stay with me.)
We have seen body-doubling technology, which literally changes a person's DNA. We have seen brain pattern imprinting with Sloane-clone. We have seen some wierd sort of brain-transplant with Dr. Desantis.
Is it possible that the fanatics think that Syd's baby is supposed to be transformed into the living embodyment of Rambadli Himself? Could "bring forth my works" have referrence to Rambaldi's obsession with immortality? I certainly cannot pretend to explain it rationally, but we know the baby does seem to have a part to play in the bad-guy's scheme.

Nice Robby, I am with you! That is definitely a possibility.
Do we really think Rambaldi would make provision for his DNA to survive all these centuries unless he knew it was going to be successfully used?
Remember when Elena told Jack and Irina that when they brought down the Covenant that they brought down a straw man? That means that when Syd torched the Covenant fertility "clinic" Elena had set that up to make CIA think they had brought down Covenant. I don't think they would put the real eggs and DNA out there to get destroyed in the process- they are too valuable. I think they still have them.
Syd's baby can still be her's and Vaughn's. Covenant could be making a Syd and Rambaldi baby. And maybe those 2 children will be the true Chosen One and Passenger, or some other persons in the Rambaldi scheme of things that he don't know about yet.
Remember, Sloane has seen A LOT of Rambqaldi writings that we haven't. What is in them?
Very very good points Uncle111. Very possible as well. WOW, I don't know what is going on now!
Man, all of you bloggers make very valid points. Some to sci-fi for me, but I could believe uncle111's theory. I mean why not? Elena staged the Covenant take down. Kept her name from it. Slipped her way into the members' lives of APO. And just think that all of this -- this plan, strategy took up most of her middle years (about 20 years, right?). So do you think that she was destroyed just like that? Or that her plan switched to inactive after she was killed? No, I believe that we haven't seen the rest of her end game yet, though we may never see her alive again. Remember, Kayta is still alive. Jack released her from prison because of her help. Maybe all that happened in the end of season four is a string of events that are playing out before our very eyes and those of APO. Sloane's evil (again), Nadia is in a bed (like she was when we first met her), Irina is alive and kicking (and evil?), Grace is new as is Rachel.
What do you think about Elena? Is she gone and dead forever, never to touch the lives of APO and Syd?
If she Helixed Irina so she could arrange for Jack and Syd think Jack killed Irina, why wouldn't she Helix herself as a contingency so that if APO got to her in Svogda(?) they would only take down another of her straw men?
I think that would be giving away too much. I don't think the writers would want to give us that big of a hint. CIA thinks they got rid of Syd's eggs, etc. and if there hasn't been an opportunity for them to implant her.
And, the prophecy is cryptic and doesn't even hint at a baby from the Chosen one.
baf-
Yes. Very possible. I hadn't even thought of the possiblility of a surrogate mother or of that being Elena.
Manalive!!! Is my brain spinning big huge time. Do you guys think that even the writers of the show could come up with the things that we have brainstormed about. They probably read this site just for some ideas with a twist. I think that the baby is syd and vaughns however, because of syd's intelligence and stamina I think that they are going to try and take the baby and raise it to be like Rambaldi. Another thing I thought about is what if Vaughn was into Rambaldi more than he let on. I mean there was a whole lot that we didn't know before his death. Maybe that is why Ilena told him that he was being transparent. Maybe they knew each other more. I don't know if that fits in this category.
I've mentioned this before, and I do not remember anyone responding. Does anyone remember ANYONE on the show even using the name "Rambaldi" in the past nine episodes? I know P-5 has been centered around "15th century writings," that are supposed to be prophetic, but its like they have written Rambaldi out of the show. Could we be barking up the wrong tree trying to fit Rambaldi back into the story? I know it is all related, but it seems to me that they are taking things in a different direction than the original plotlines we have been trying to decypher. Someone please tell me I am wrong.

rob-
I don't remember if they've mentioned Rambaldi or not, but Mueller who started P5 was the one who translated the Rambaldi documents that the Mueller Device was built from. We have Sloane still working angles, Irina working angles, and they were 2 of the biggest persuers of Rambaldi.
We have the P5 document, a Rambaldi era document, difficult to translate, which is about genetics and who knows what else. There are still secret criminal organizations doing battle over ancient advanced technologies. The Rambaldi framework is still in place, we just aren't hearing his name. I believe in seasons past we had periods of seldom or never hearing Rambaldi's name.
If they are keeping the Rambaldi framework, but doing away with Rambaldi they are engaged in a literary dishonesty.
I think it's still Rambaldi and they will bring it out before things end- in a big way.
wow, great ideas everyone!! I like Uncle111's idea about the destroyed science lab being a "strawman", it never ocurred to me that the lab could have been faked and Syd's real eggs were hidden safely somewhere else. I'm really, really hoping they don't bring Elena back saying Irena shot her double...that would just be too much story repetition in my mind. The final confrontation between the sisters leads me to believe Irena shot the real Elena from the way she acted, but ya never know w/ Alias.
I've also noticed the lack of Rambaldi mention this season, especially when they were trying to obtain the body disinigrating device in Bob and NO ONE even mentioned the similarity between that and the Rambaldi machine used in season 2. I agree w/ jenn that it seems they're going out of their way not to mention him so the real story will hit us all in the face when it's revealed (sort of like last season).
I want to look again at the S1/E4 scene where Jack is undergoing a routine SD-6 psych evaluation and asks to take a break when he has a "vision" of Irina holding a baby and she turns into Syd holding the baby. Syd says to Jack,"It's only a matter of time before I find out the truth." Was Jack disturbed by the sight because it was Irina turning into Syd and saying it was only a matter of time before she found out that Jack had put her through Project Christmas, or because there is something about Syd having a baby that has a disturbing meaning to him? Did Jack know something about Syd and having a baby, and that her having the baby was going to reveal something to her about Jack? Is Jack involved in something Rambaldi related that involved Syd and a baby? Is that part of S.A.B. 47 Project that Jack started when Syd was 1 year old?
Nice Uncle111, I love where you are taking this!! It is very possible.
wow - all very interesting points. all i can say is that i HOPE HOPE HOPE that this is not a rambaldi baby. how sad and disappointing for syd -i remember thinking about this when they torched the eggs how weird and hard it would be for her to have this baby and it would be part hers and part rambaldis!! yikes - talk about conflict of interest! (: i really think that (especially because the series is ending) that they have some amazing twists and turns up their sleeve but i don't think they are going to make baby bristow actually be rambaldi's baby - i can see a story line where they try to get the baby (well obviously thats already happening) or someone THINKS the baby is rambaldis but i bet she will really be isabelle bristow-vaughn (don't you guys think she'll definitely name her that because her and vaughn decided on it??)
next question....won't it be the cutest moment ever to watch vaughn meet his little baby girl and hold her for the first time...this is my wishing and hoping out loud!!!!
