I got an e-mail from blogger Brittany. She made a very good point related to Irina, Prophet 5 and Sydney's hypnosis.We all know that Irina knows about Project Christmas, she was sent to learn information about it. She knows that Jack "hardwired" Sydney to stand up to most forms of torture and brainwashing. If Irina is just playing Prophet 5 in order to achieve her bigger plan, like in season 2 and 4, she had to use Sydney to give Prophet 5 what they want for now. She had to know that Sydney would most likely give the wrong information thanks to Jack. It wouldn't make sense for Irina to use Sydney for the information if she ACTUALLY wanted Prophet 5 to have the information. Irina knows too much about Syd and she knows that her daughter isn't going to give the right info-there is NO WAY that she would. Even though Irina isn't involved in Sydney's life she is still her mother, and mothers have a way of just knowing ( season 2 she knew Syd loved Vaughn and Vaughn loved Syd by simply looking at the two of them). Doing it this way, Irina knows that when Prophet 5 figures out that Syd gave them the wrong name the blame won't be on Irina, she will look clean. Irina also knows that Jack will be on a war path once he finds out Sydney is missing and will stop at nothing until he finds her... Irina may possibly be hoping and knowing that Jack will find her and take Sydney away for awhile.
Project Christmas saves the day! Of course Irina knew Syd would give the wrong information!! Gosh, this is getting deeper and deeper! What do you think?

An interesting theory, this. It reminded me of the scenes of Sydney, as Kendall described it, being tortured at the hands of the "Covenant" - if that IS who it really was.
Does anyone remember going back and forth over the figures in the shaddows who were trying to brainwash our beloved Sydney? I certainly went frame by frame trying to catch something of a hint regarding who those people might be. I remember seeing the figure of a woman and thinking, "Could this possibly be Irena!?!"
It might have been Elena and it might have been someone we will never know, but what if it WAS Irena?
The theory that Irena is making a play on P5 to protect Syd and babe makes me think of the lost two years. I don't know if there is anything to it, but Irena may have been the one to plant the video of Syd fake-killing Lazeray in order to lead them on the path. We know she was collaborating with Jack during that time.
Maybe I am going too far, but Irena's duplicity regarding her love for Syd and her constant reliance on Syd's toughness to accomplish her own agenda - may actually extend much further. In fact, I am wondering if she didn't fake the whole "captured by Elena" thing in order to draw Syd into doing exactly what she had planned all along.
I love Irena. You just can't ever trust a thing concerning her. Isn't that a loveable quality in ALIAS?
Brittany, I think that's an excellent theory that Irena used Syd since she knew that she wouldn't give the real info. Irena's no dummy, she would know about Syd's ability to resist torture and mind control. Nice to have one last post before leaving for a long weekend, Happy Holidays and safe travels to everyone! *hugs* again to robetron, we'll be back soon. ;-)

That is a good theory. As I was watching the episode I kept thinking...there is no way Sydney is being brainwashed so of course I was worried what would happen when she resisted. When I saw Irina I knew there was more to the story and of course she was obviously manipulateing the situation to her own end. Now I see what it could be. Thanks you guys. Lot's to think about.
