It wasn’t particularly romantic. It’s dark, dank chain link fences didn’t exactly create a romantic ambiance. But among the boxes and stacked metal chairs and dusty files, Sydney and Vaughn fell in love. Perhaps it was the fact that their relationship, professional and/or otherwise was strictly forbidden by Sydney’s employer; SD-6 and that the private quarters of micro-self storage was a place that allowed them to see each other. Before the downfall of the Alliance, Sydney and Vaughn met in several public places; such as the golf course, the market, the car wash. The blood van was perfect for quick meetings on campus; Sydney leaving with a bandage or an ice pack. And the maintenance van parked down a dark alley was also fitting for late night meetings. But the storage house was the one place they could look each other in the eye, be together without hiding or risking their lives. Once it was no longer necessary for them to meet in private, micro was no longer needed. Though I am glad Sydney and Vaughn’s love was able to come out of hiding, I miss their secret meetings, their shy glances and soft smiles from behind the cages. There will always be a special place in my heart for micro-self storage, as I am sure there is in Sydney and Vaughn’s.
Thanks Liz for the photo!
