In the Writer's Room

Writer/Producer/Director Bio of the Week

I have decided to bring to the foreground some of the many writers, producers and directors who have so diligently given their creative minds and time towards developing one of the most successful dramas on television. This will be a weekly article. If you have any suggestions or questions, please contact me.

This week I would like to introduce Ken Olin, Executive Producer and Director. Here is a brief bio provided by abcmedianet.com.

Actor/director/producer Ken Olin has established himself as one of the most multi-faceted people in the television industry. His acting credits include starring roles in the series "Hill Street Blues," "thirtysomething," "LA Doctors" and "EZ Streets." He also starred in the made-for-television films "Good Night Sweet Wife: A Murder in Boston" and "Y2K," and the miniseries "Dead By Sunset."

Olin's illustrious directing credits include the series "Felicity," "The West Wing," "Breaking News" -- which he also executive-produced -- "Freaks and Geeks," "Judging Amy," "EZ Streets," "thirtysomething" -- for which he won two Humanitas Prizes -- and "LA Doctors," on which he also served as a producer. "LA Doctors" won a People's Choice Award for Favorite New Drama.

Olin directed the television films "Broken Cord," "In Pursuit of Honor" and "Doing Time on Maple Drive" - which was nominated for three Emmy Awards, including Best Made for Television Movie -- and the feature film "White Fang II." Last season he directed multiple episodes of the Emmy nominated series "Alias," which he also executive produces.

Ken Olin is one of my favorite Alias directors. It’s not mentioned in the bio, but Ken is married to Patricia Wettig, the actress who plays CIA psycho-analyst, Dr. Judy Barnett. Some of the Alias episodes he has directed include episode 1.02 “So It Begins,” episode 2.14 “Double Agent,” episode 3.05 “Repercussions,” episode 4.01 "Authorized Personnel Only: Part 1” and episode 4.02 “Authorized Personnel Only: Part 2,” not to mention this season’s opener “Prophet Five.”

PS. There is no relation to Lena Olin. Though I am sure Ken would like to think so!!

I've always wondered:

Any relation to Lena Olin?

yeah I always wondered if he was related to Lena. Didn't know he was married to Barnett though, that's cool. I missed her last season, I thought she was a good side character and her relationship w/ Sloane was interesting. I know the gang doesn't technically work for the CIA anymore at APO, so she probably won't be back, but it would be nice to see her again. I like the writer/director highlights, nice post!
