God Will-ing

Sun-bleached California bed-head with a wrinkled shirt, ear pressed to the phone, right hand scratching out leads on a ketchup stained napkin. He comes into the apartment swinging a bag, dropping a sack of hamburgers on the counter, smiling at Sydney-the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen. Those are the dearest memories we have of Will Tippin. He was the supportive best friend/investigative reporter pining after Sydney while trying to track down the individuals responsible for her fiancĂ©’s murder. Good Will Tippin.

After an adventuresome and nearly deadly investigation into SD-6, Will eventually learns of Sydney’s secret and about the organization that killed Danny. Jack saves him from meeting a similar fate, instead fingering him as a heroin addict. But, after washing many a dish at Francie’s restaurant, and thanks to his secret Sydney-love nemesis, Vaughn, Will goes on to join the CIA as a desk analyst.

He later shares a kiss with Francie over wine and steaming lobsters, only to find Francie has become Alison Doran, a Covenant agent. He is accused of being a double himself, before being stabbed and left for dead in Sydney’s apartment. Then, two years later his peaceful Wisconsin existence, thanks to Witness Protection, is turned upside down by a supposedly dead Sydney Bristow. Without hesitation, he sports a fake “early Stones” British accent and accompanies Sydney on a journey to find the Rambaldi cube. He gets his revenge with Alison and returns to Wisconsin, but not before bedding Sydney in an emotional, Vodka-induced trip down memory lane.

It has been whispered that Bradley Cooper will return as the valiant, but reluctant-in-love, Will Tippin, to end the Alias series. It has been posted that Agent Thomas Grace will investigate old Witness Protection files in order to dig up dirt on Prophet 5 and a familiar face will return to help him out. Let us remember that Will, aside from being a sharp newspaper reporter, moved rapidly through the CIA ranks as a research analyst. He was privy to vast amounts of underworld information and it can be assumed that his character will be reprised because of his knowledge.

In the thick of his CIA stint Will was researching Kabir, the leader of a Middle Eastern terrorist group in cahoots with Sloane. Will gathered intel that lead to the CIA’s infiltration of Kabir’s camp, simultaneously rendering CIA Standford-educated specialists speechless. Will had ties to Andrian Lazarey, who was one of his informants he knew only as St. Aidan. St. Aidan would lead Sydney right to information on her sister. And though he maybe hammering out construction blueprints in the mid-west, and dating the painter next door, Jonah aka Will, could be back with some intriguing information for the CIA and a shoulder for Syd. Over the period of 5 years Will was in contact with Jack, Sydney, Vaughn, Sark, Alison and Lazarey; that is a wide variety of contacts both personal and professional. There is bound to be a connection made between Will’s old research and APO’s current investigation into Prophet 5.

What do you think? What role do you see Will playing in the P5 scenerio, aside from returning as Syd's best friend? (What do you suppose will be his reaction to the baby? *Picture his face when he learned of Syd and the CIA*)

COUNT DOWN TO ALIAS: 47 DAYS (Thanks Jenn)

Hi,

he will probably be stunned to learn about Sydney's baby. To my mind, he will reappear as the Sydney's best friend.

I can't wait to see Will again. So Grace stumbles upon knowledge he thinks Will may have on P5 from his investigation? OK,I'll buy that, I would love to see Will help Syd make things safe for her and the baby. Afterall, he's really the only person she has left. Danny's dead, Francie/Allison is who knows where, Weiss is gone, her sister is in a coma, Vaughn is "dead". The only friend she has left is her dad, and most of the time that's who she needed to vent about to her friends.

As far as Will's reaction to the baby...that should be interesting. And Will's reaction to seeing Syd and screaming was a classic Alias moment for me, still makes me laugh. I mean I felt bad for the guy, but it was still really funny.

haha, I agree jenn, it's that moment and his completely flabbergasted scream that makes Rendevous one of my favorite Alias episodes ever! I always look forward to it in my rewatching of season 1. I love the outtake of that too, him and Jen just start CRACKING up, it's hilarious! :) I could definitely see Will's past knowledge coming into play and important in bringing down p5. He's proven himself as a very smart guy, especially when it comes to research... sometimes too smart for his own good. I suppose I would have liked to have been surprised by his return, but I don't mind that being spoiled (even if it is just rumors), I can't wait to see Will again!

Since I haven't seen S5, not much to add in the way of "how is Will involved or what info does he have" but I just had to comment on my favorite Will scenes ever- when he and Syd go under cover and he does the British accent. How hilarious was that??! (Actually, I think that one should be on TNT either today or early next week). When he's replaying the conversation to Syd ("I'm here... she's here... We made it!"), I crack up everytime. Here's hoping Will gets to do some more undercover work with the new SpyMomma. :)

Wow, I never made the connection between Will's research and P5! Fantastics thoughts girlscout! You gave me something to ponder about as I (impatiently) wait for the show to come back on!

QueenMab- We haven't seen you in here in awhile! Nice to have you back!

I really like the idea that Will could help with something from what he researched while at the CIA! I think that would be a really easily believable way to get him back for a few episodes at the end! I loved his character, and was sad to see him go. It would be great if the research he was involved in helped to wrap things up!

Great blog today makes total sense to me. Question is whether they can get Bradley Cooper off Broadway to film an episode. My guess is yes. I don't personally want to see him end up being the love interest - he is perfect as Syd's friend (and come one who here hasn't slept with a friend or two?)

Oh I'm here everyday! I just might not post all the time, but I'm reading all these great articles and comments! I just bought seasons1 and 2 so I'm busy re-watching everything!

haha, yeah I agree w/ mike, I prefer Will as Syd's friend rather than love interest as well. A little OT, I saw Wedding Crashers for the first time last night and Bradley Cooper was great! I'm so not used to him swearing though as Will, which is funny, but he's great at playing a real ass too I guess lol :)

Girlscout, I like your theory that Will has info regarding P5. (I'm not sure that Will understands the full scope of his intel; if in fact he has intel.) Wasn't it Vaughn who helped Will get his "official" job at the CIA after he did such a good job of researching Project Christmas? Could Vaughn have been using Will to uncover info on his father and P5? Could Vaughn be with Will right now? Lots to think about!!!!!

I'm sorry...was that your theory jenn, or girlscouts?

I actually think Cooper is a better actor over-all than Vartan is. If Will makes a come-back, I hope it is in an active role, like he did in season three. That was my favorite Will-scene, when he and sid showed up in costume at the hotel desk and he said in a purposely obnixious British accent, "Yeah, I'm here; she's here; we made it." --Classic. (Before anyone gets offended, I mean obnoxious as compared to Rachel's very well done accent in "Bob.")
-"Robby"

The episode that Syd and Will met again was on TNT friday. Wow, I forgot how great that episode was. I would love to see him come back!

-And I have to say that if I was Will and I came face to face w/ Evil Francie I would have done more than stab her once... just to MAKE SURE she was really dead. I mean the woman survived massive gunshot wounds.

Enjoying the Will chatter, especially because I'm re-watching season one every morning on the treadmill. Will and Francie gave so much to round out Syd's life. I love how Syd can be about to "go in" to an assignment and she's on the phone, counseling Francie about her love life. And later, after Will learns the truth about Syd's job, about how she'll dab makeup on a bruise and then look at him and say, "Does it show?" Those touches are so great!

One thing hit me in my review of season one--In season four, wasn't Sydney surprised in the "flashback" episode (when she was pretending to be Irina to jog her ailing dad's memory) to learn that "Laura" knew Jack was CIA? But in season one, early one, Jack tells Syd that "Laura" knew he was CIA, that they "had no secrets from each other." Ha! Little did he know!

Anyway, I love this blog and I love catching up. Keep up the great work and thoughtful discussions!

Angie

Yeah, Angela. I think that was a continuity error on the writer's part. Jack did tell Syd in Season 1 (when they were at the carousel) that "Laura" did know about Jack being CIA. There's a couple of other parts throughout Alias, where there's continuity errors. Such as, is in 4.8 "Echoes" when Sydney is talking to Nadia about Anna Espinoza and the box, Syd tells Nadia, "I had the key, she had the box", when in fact, it was the other way around. As you'll see in 1.3, at the end on the football field, Syd has the box and Anna has the key. Just one of those things that I think true fans really notice because they're so engrossed in this fabulous show, but the writer's don't bother to go back and review past episodes or whatever. Anyways, hope I cleared some things up. If you want to check out some more continuity errors or trivia about the show, check out www.imbd.com and type in "Alias".

Well, this post IS about Will, so I'll now give my 2 cents on him.

I love Will and always have, but ONLY as Syd's friend. From Day One, I wanted Syd and Vaughn together and never wanted her with Will. That episode where they kiss (in season 1), I hate that part! I was like, "NO!!! She's supposed to be kissing Vaughn!" Anyways, like I said, I love Will, but as Syd's friend. He has always been there for her and when he found out the truth about Syd, I was kind of excited that she finally had a friend in her personal life that she could talk to and relate to. I think Will does love Sydney as more than a friend, but he also loves her enough to let her go when he needs to and just wants her to be happy. I think his reaction to SpyBaby will be positive and he'll be happy for her and maybe he can be "Uncle Will", but I personally hope that the writer's don't bring him back as Syd's love interest in the end. Her and Vaughn are meant to be together (in our lovely Alias World) and I believe they will be, but I hope Will comes back, again, as her friend and as someone mentioned before, "Back In Action!" and helping Sydney/SpyMommy track down P5. No love scene this time. Didn't like that part either. I am SO up for Will coming back, as Sydney's friend and confidant, not as her lover. Bring Vaughn back for that!

anonymous- I really like your idea that Vaugh purpsosley gave Will info regarding P5. Maybe Vaughn thought that Will could uncover things he hadn't, you know, the whole fresh pair of eyes kind of thing. And he really respected Will's brilliantness in finding intel on cases. Perhaps Vaughn set up Will's job at the CIA for his own gain. He did seem to ask him a lot about his work, how things were going, etc. Good call!! What do you think GS?

There's no doubt in my mind. As someone has stated, Will had access to countless information as a CIA desk worker. He might not know that he has info, but then again he didn't know that St. A was Lazarey 'til Syd needed his help. But my gut is telling me that Jack might have some kind of connection to Will. After all as Girlscout posted: "Jack saves him from meeting a similar fate, instead fingering him as a heroin addict." Jack has some concern about what happens to him, he tried countless times to thwart Will's attempt to dig into Danny's death. And remember, he brought in Grace...Grace is the one digging in the Wit. Protect. files......so maybe Jack is the puppetmaster behind Will's return. Maybe he finally needs Will for something that Jack set up in the past. Maybe it's something that connects Jack to Vaughn...or Weiss or Irina. Who knows?

jenn256 said...

wow, good point Rudy, Jack does seem to be the knower of all(i know Knower is not a word, it just fit). He did hire Grace and he may be the one to put Grace in charge of finding nfo on P5, which I guess means finding Will. And I agree, I think Will may not even know he knows something, it may be something obscure to him, but important to Syd and APO.

RUDY said...

Thanks.

Going with the idea that Will will return and not know why, he'll be the friend that Syd needs and nothing more. I mean she has a child to think about now...there's really no time for her to dap in a relationship, especially one that's always been awkward for her (remember s1).

Maybe Irina will kidnap him to find out the real location of the Horizon? Just playing! :)

Wow, I'm back! How did I ever make it? Got so busy the last few weeks I haven't been reading or blogging! Gots some catching up to do!

I LOVE Will's character! I never liked the idea of Will and Syd together (although Will certainly did). I hope he shows up with an active role in taking down Prophet 5...after all, it was the role he played earlier that made him feel like it was all worth it, not to mention he LOVES it and he GOOD at it! :)

I really don't think it would be right to end ALIAS without him! Go Will!

I don't think this belongs under the Will post, but wasn't sure where else to post it.
Tonight I just watch the ep from season 3 (full disclosure) in which Syd finds out what happened to her those missing years (such a great ep btw).

Then they go to the scene in Patagonia and show Sark w/ all these science men and one is extracting fluid (assumed to be syd's egg) from a vile and inserts it onto a petrie dish (which I took to be Rambaldi's DNA).
A lot of time passes between then and when Syd and her super friends show up there. When that is taking place in Patagonia, they are still in LA.

Then it cuts to Syd and all showing up and destroying the place and the amazing scene in which Dixon tells her pretty much to have her way w/ her eggs and she destroys all that is left.

I always questioned since that episode aired that they may had gotten away w/ the DNA and her eggs (or at least one or two).

Then she got preggers and well, you know where my thoughts were there. Who is to say she is carrying vaughns baby? Even if she is I think it will be questioned that it is possible she is carrying Rambaldi's baby.

Plus as two intelligent CIA agents, Syd and Vaughn, you would think they would use every sort of protection/percaution as to not have a little SydVaughn around while they were still risking their lives in the CIA. you know?

Any thoughts on this or am I pulling at strings here...I just don't think the writers wouldn't have shown the insertion of her 'egg' into the 'dna' for no reason at all...

srg-alias said...

It's an interesting theory dignan, maybe worthy of a blog article GS? I love Full Disclosure too, one of my fav Alias eppies. My impression has always been that the egg fertilization (the guy squirting the liquid in the petri dish) was going on right before Syd & Co. showed up to save the day. Of course that might be wishful thinking that all of that was burned up by Syd, it's tough to decide because they rarely show the travel time between destinations. I honestly would be disappointed if they made her baby Rambaldi's or something like that, it's a bit too X-Files for me (was a great show but it's not Alias). And yes, you'd think Syd and Vaughn would know better to use protection, but obviously the writers didn't plan on JG getting pregnant, so they had to deal w/ real life fitting in with the characters. Any kind of protection is still only 99%, there's always that possibility of a little guy getting through. I know it's not real life, but if anyone else is a Friends fan, you'll remember that Rachel got pregnant even though she and Ross used protection.

I am on the Rambaldi baby theory. Give me 30 minutes and I will wipe something up.

i absolutely love will tippin! i am watching season 1 again right now and i just love his acting, his character, and everything the writers do with him - i too want syd to be with vaughn but i actually liked the scene where they kissed in s1 - i like the drama it created and the tension and i loved how they got past it and just love each other as friends (well i mean we all know will's feelings continued...)i am glad that they didn't air the deleted scenes from s1 where will talks to francie about syd - and i REALLY wish we could have seen will with the REAL francie more than just the one night - although thats part of what made it such a heartwrenchingly good plotline....would love to see him come back for the 100th ep or ANYTIME!!! i haven't seen kitchen confidential but would like to check it out. and i agree it WAS weird seeing him in wedding crashers!!!
