The Deadly Domino

Death leads to a great many things on Alias. The death of one person in any given situation has opened storylines and thrown characters into a spin of lies and secrets, fighting to bring to justice those that have killed or who will kill again.

Danny's murder placed Sydney in the middle of double-agenthood. The murder of Arvin's close friend, Jean Briault placed former James Bond star, Roger Moore in a position to sway the Alliance not to wage war on Alexander Kassinau. Connected to Kassinau was Irina Derevko, which pushed Syndey into a search for her mother. Later, the "murder" of Emily placed Sloane at the table of 12. Along with Brault's death, he was able to frame Ariana Kane for Emily's death. Sloane's mini-hiatus to be with Emily brought in Anthony Geiger, which brought down SD-6 and the other Alliance cells. This led to Sloane's arrangement with Irina in sharing their Rambaldi artifacts-seemingly, the Covenant was born. The Covenant led to Sydney's missing two years, Vaughn's marriage to a CIA mole (and the death of Lazarey) and Elena's wrath.

The "death" of Vaughn, again led Sydney on a hunt for members of an unknown terrorist group-interestingly enough, linked to her mother. The deaths of Ivan Curtis, Gordon Dean and Dr. Desantis would seem to weaken P5, but as we know, Irina Derevko, along with Kelly Peyton, are fully capable of running the show for whoever the anonymous Benefactors are.

Sloane killed Briault and Emily in order to rid himself of the Alliance. Irina killed Kassinau in order to rid herself of him and to secure her position in CIA custody and seemingly Curtis killed Vaughn in order to keep hidden the secrets of Prophet 5. What do you suppose the deaths of Curtis, Dean and Desantis will bring to the table? We are aware that Sloane, Irina and Jack (who killed Haladki, and "Irina") are willing to kill to protect the ones they love. What does this have to do with the advanced movement of P5? What do you suppose is the hidden agenda for this trio of death (Sloane, Irina and Jack)? The promos have suggested that someone close to APO will pay the ultimate price by series end. What are your predictions? Who will be the sacrifical lamb?

I think it is likely to be Jack. He has done just about everything to protect Syd except give his life at this point. I think it would be an awesome way to show how much his relationship with Sydney has grown and flourished over the years. In the piliot episode, Syd didn't even want to tell Jack about her engagement to Danny because she didn't want him to ruin it. Now in season five, with Vaughn being in hiding, he has become her rock. I really believe that Jack will do anything to see that Sydney and the baby (and Vaughn)are rid of P5. Even if that means giving his life to protect them.

As much as I would hate to see Jack die, I think it would be an excellent way to show how Jack's character has developed, a sharp contrast to season 1.

Devlin, he is one the few people Jack and Sydney seem to trust, so it would be a nice twist if he turns out to have been evil al along

I think the sacrificial lamb has to be someone we really care about--Nadia, if she ever wakes up, or Will, if he comes back and stays until the end, or Marshall. If I had to bet on it, I'd say Jack . . . because there'd be a sense that he's lived a complete life and given his all for his daughter.

Sloane? LOL. That'd be an uncharacteristic surprise. Irina . . . maybe. Would prove once and for all that she does love Syd above all.

If Jack were to be killed, that would make the circle complete in my opinion. Syd began the show practically without a dad and she would end the show without a dad. Of course this would be a very dramatic end if you look at how strong their bond has become, BUT a very "aliasish" way to end the show.

By the way, consider the possibility that Irina is The Chosen One instead of Syd. Is it possible that Irina and Nadia are going to have the fight where neihter will survive? I mean, the fight between Nadia and Syd in Sovogda didn't quite fulfil the prophecy. The last episode of Alias and neither of them will survive.

hm, I don't know...the idea of Jack dying at the end of series upsets me a bit. Not only because I love his character, but I feel like Syd has had to deal with enough death and misery in her life. Losing her father, who she finally has a loving bond with, would be very tragic for her, even if she does get Vaughn back. Personally I would rather it be Sloane or Irena...either one could redeem themselves and all the wrong they've done by dying for their loved ones. Irena could die the "hero" that Syd always imagined her to be, and it would let Jack move on and possibly find love again. I know many fans love the "baddie" Sloane, and I agree that he was a great character that you loved to hate, but I would love it if his love for Nadia and/or Syd came through in the end and he was able to prove himself by that kind of sacrifice. Just my 2c. :)

SRG- I am so with you in Irina being the one who dies. I feel like she owes it to Sydney. Sydney always talked about how she idolized this dead woman, come to find out she's alive and has done some pretty heinous things. Though Irina has always said that she would never hurt Sydney and wants to protect her, what has she really done to proved that. I think her life in exchange for Sydney makes sense. Also, I am with ya on Irina being the Chosen One. Perhaps it's true and we have yet to see the battle between the Chosen One and the Passenger. Nice one!

Admittedly, I am not as up-to-snuff as the rest of you fans, but here's my 2 cents anyways... first of all, I think that the end of the series is going to bring us another face-off between Syd and Nadia. As Andreas said above, I don't think that the prophecy of the Chosen One and the Passenger has been fulfilled, though I am reluctant to push Irina into the role of the Chosen One. A sister vs. sister sounds more epic than a mother vs. daughter battle, particularly since everyone agrees that Irina would never hurt Syd. Well, doesn't it follow that she would never hurt her other daughter either?

I would also add that maybe this situation arises because we really don't know Nadia as well as we would like to think we do...

In unrelated speculation, I'd like to bring up Agent Grace and his past marriage one more time... after all, weren't we all looking for that connection to the deep, dark secret in his file that both Syd and Jack read? I'm thinking that it must be someone who was a danger to Syd and her associates in the past, but for some reason no longer poses a threat, maybe because they have been killed off... hmm, wouldn't someone like Ana Espinoza really throw the storyline for a loop? At any rate, like many have already stated, I think we are just beginning to find out about the past of Agent Grace, and I think there might be a whole lot more there than we realize...

*sigh* I think I am going to have to run out and buy myself a copy of the previous seasons, so that I can really delve into the details AND the bigger picture over the rest of the hiatus. I'm so looking forward to it!!! And GS, love your blog - I want copies of Slingshot's soundtracks, por favor!

If Irina is the Chosen One, then Nadia couldn't be the Passenger. Right? Wouldn't Katya or Elena be the Passenger?

** I must state that this theory isn't working for me. I think it's Nadia and Syd. And when I say Nadia, I mean her presence now...her sickness will bring about the battle, not the real, sweet-hearted sister at season four's beginning.

NO NOT JACK!!! of course we already know he would be willing to die for her (taking the radiation to save her) but i feel like, instead of it being a full circle it would be so devastating to syd and their relationship has just come so far and is so awesome, i would HATE to see him die!!!

we haven't seen devlin in so long...i am doubtful of his return....

ok i could SEE irina or sloane more than i could see jack...and i kinda think there would be some sense to irina being the one to die - but NO more tragedy for syd please!!!!

PLEASE NOT MARSHALL!!!! did anyone else freak out when he got shot by lauren last season?? he is so lovable!!!

nadia could be it but i don't think it would make as dramatic of an effect because her life already hangs in the balance....

hmmmm - great thoughts everyone. i have brought my alias soundtracks back to the position in my cd player and listened to all of season 1 and part of season 2 on a long drive yesterday....ahhh the memories (:
