Again, a big thanks to SRG who has provided us with today's topic. Thanks! And happy viewing to all!In my daily musings about Alias, two interactions between Irina and Vaughn came to my mind. I was thinking about the person in the box and whether or not its Vaughn's dad and if Irina helped Bill Vaughn fake his death. I suppose we’ll find out for sure tonight, but two scenes gave evidence to make this a plausible scenario.
One is from season 2, when Vaughn sees Irina for the first time after she's turned herself in to the CIA. When he's leaving her prison cell, she says "You look just like him," in reference to his father. I always thought that was a rather cold and heartless thing for her to say, him knowing that she killed his father. If in fact Irina and Bill were actually friends or partners in the Prophet 5 mystery, it seems more appropriate that she would make that comment, knowing that Bill Vaughn is alive and that she didn't kill him.
The second is in the season 4 finale when Irina tells Vaughn that he shouldn't wait to propose to Sydney and that she had seen the ring. He tells her something like "you killed my father, I don’t think I have to ask for your blessing". She doesn't have any reaction to his accusation, in fact she almost seems amused, and just continues on with her advice to tell Sydney about his “covert” activities. It seems that maybe deep down she knows she didn't kill Bill, so she doesn't feel any guilt or remorse when he says that to her. Also, the question comes to mind about how she knew what Vaughn was up to. Unless she’s somehow involved in Prophet 5, I don’t see how she would have found out.
SRG asks some great questions with this article. How do you suppose Irina is connected to P5? Do you believe Bill Vaughn is in fact alive? And if so, what is his connection to Irina, other than she is his “killer” and he “stole” Nadia from her?

Good observation about Irina saying what she said in S2 to Vaughn. "You look just like him." It does really sound heartless, especially since we thought she killed him. But I think that Bill Vaughn is alive and possibly is in the box. And Irina HAS to be in on the whole Prophet 5 thing. Not sure exactly how, but she has to be. What about the idea that Bill and Irina were working together and... Renee is their daughter? Just a thought...
hehe, well it's possible, Irena seems to get around. ;-) But from what Vaughn's said of his father, he sounds like an honorable guy that wouldn't cheat on his wife, but you never know.
Don't we know from S4 that Bill Vaughn was alive past the date he was supposed to have been killed by Irina. Rather or not he is dead now, I don't think Irina had any part in it, unless she helped him fake his death because they were working together.

thanks calimack! Well our theory of Bill being in the box didn't turn out to be true, but I still don't want to push aside the idea that he might still be alive. In s4 when Vaughn found all the clues of him being alive they ended up being staged clues set by Elena, so I don't think we can count on any of those being legit. Still, would be nice if Irena could be cleared of his murder somehow...
Bill Vaughn's murder is the one thing that Irina will never be forgiven for in Sydney's eyes or Vaughn's. It's too close to home, it's too personal. I think if she were cleared of his murder than that awkward tension between Irina and Sydney, that unspoken distance would disappear. And that is one of the things we love about their relationship, the conflict, the struggle with trust. It wouldn't be the same.
part of her comments to vaughn in s2 were setting up her character to be this heartless and evil person with no remorse....of course everything could have a double meaning and could be used now to think bill vaughn might be alive - though my instinct tells me he isn't. (though if he is, wouldn't it be cool if he was with vaughn right now whereever he is)
i hope renee is not irina/bills daughter...that would be a little too crazy even for alias. i don't want bill to be a cheater!!!!
