"God gave you style and gave you Grace..."

(First, I suppose it is sacrilegious for me to use Sydney and Vaughn’s love song to title an article about new APO agent Thomas Grace, but it’s catchy, sue me!)

This season on Alias, tons of new faces will be wondering around the APO Rotunda. Actor Balthazar Getty has been introduced as Alias’ attempted to replace Michael Vartan. But, before you tranq me and have me carted off to Fort Williams for a round of the Inferno Protocol, understand that I believe the character of Michael Vaughn cannot be replaced. With Sydney’s love in hiding and Weiss off to Washington, APO is in dire need of a strong, rough-around-the-edges character that ain’t bad to look at. Enter Thomas Grace, a former Marine with a temper and a secret.

Our first impression? Cute, but a lousy bar-fighter. Thomas seems to be holding the bad-boy card and his macho air (a large contrast to Vaughn’s boy charm and naïve morality) may bring heaps of black-ops tension and conflict. And though we miss Vaughn and will hold vigil until his return, I think we are in for a treat with Grace. We’ve had big brother Weiss, we’ve had smarmy Haladki and an array of guest agents like Noah Hicks and Ethan Hawke’s, James Lennox, but we haven’t had a permanent male CIA character with a questionable past and unseen motives. He's the quiet guy, the reculsive guy, which may come off rude and arrogant. But I think APO might have found itself a new super-spy.

My Thomas Grace Predictions:
-Dixon may question Grace’s honor and trust.
- Jack may need to keep in line with this "secret" poses a problem or danger to Syd and the rest of the gang. I see a possible father/son thing happening.
-Marshall will stutter, run and hide when he sees Grace coming.
-Rachel will fall for Grace or Grace for Rachel. Either way, there will be a crush there, a la Vaughn in season 1.
-Grace will take a protective stance when it comes to Sydney and the baby, which I think will hold true for all the male characters this year.
Look out for finger-in-face fights and a clash of opinions, but I see all that melting into mutual respect and understanding in the next few episodes. I like Grace from what little we’ve seen of him and I look forward to what his character will bring to the table.

What do you think? Will Grace bring it or will it be a failed attempt by writers to give us a new main man?

hmm, I might have to get back to you on this after this week's episode. It's really hard for me to judge what Grace's character will bring to the show with what little we've seen of him, but I'm fascinated to learn the secret that made Jack "uncomfortable" when looking at his file. My guess, which goes along with the Rambaldi symbol flashing while his name shows in the credits, is that he has some connection to Rambaldi or perhaps Irena.

egh...I’m skeptical as to how well he will do. Who knows, he could pick up some good ratings from the oh so dedicated, there every step of the way, fans....but as of now I’m counting the days 'til the return of the ever beautiful, soon to be spydaddy2, Mr. Hottie Vaughn.
As for Rookie Rachel and Newbie Grace...at this point I’m not sure I care if anything happens between them. All I know is there sure as hell better be no giving of drawers, ice cream in the park, talks on the pier, jokes on the roof, steamy shower moments, feelings expressed using any type of time telling devices, proposals in aircraft carriers, or anything of the like.
As for the title...I’ll let that slide. Careful though…your pushing some sensitive buttons!
All in all I will give Grace the benefit of the doubt…JJ is going somewhere with all of this, right?

lol, that's cute :)

For all posters, Slingshot is my sister. She's Vaughn sensitive. She's skeptical.

ok, thanks for the connection ;-)

I don't think he'll turn into a "new main man."

I think everyone's favorite spydaddy will fill that role quite well.

I can't see them letting Grace end up being as prominent on the show as Vaughn was.

It must be nice to have other Alias fanatics in your family!!! :)

After rewatching the last episode that was one of my main questions. WHat could this "secret" be that Jack is going to have to deal with. Rambaldi is a good prediction. Any other ones out there?

Oh, Sara, you don't even know. My whole family is on here. My mom asked me how to post today! It's nice to have extra eyes watching out for all the details.

I know, I know. Vaughn and Syd can never be replaced, but having Nadia and Weiss get together, wasn't that fun? I think Tom and Rachel will be like that. Fun and flirty. It can't hurt. And I think Grace will make a good friend for Vaughn when he returns, now that Weiss is gone.
Plus, I think Rachel and Syd will hit it off. They'll be fast friends. In fact, I think I saw an episode picture of Rachel staying at Syd's house.

LOL! My mother was an Avid fan but she past away last year. Its a good thing my husband is into it because my brothers love to sit around and harrass me for it! :) Actually I have a 2 year old who is obsessed with Sydney Bristow/Jennifer Garner. So I guess it must run in the family.

i'm not too sure about grace either. i think i trust him more than that rachel chick. we know he has some sort of secret that jack knows about. that's what i've been curious about. what is it? maybe jack will have to even out the rough edges around grace before he makes a good apo agent. guess we'll have to wait and see. however, he better not show any interest in syd romanticly or i may have to throw a sydney style drop kick at the tv!

I'm sure whatever Grace's past is, Jack the SecretKeeper will not reveal it until the most opportune moment. Jack's pretty good at be the all-knowing.

All of the commercial previews show that Getty is supposed to be the legit and "stick to the rules" guy, and that Rachel is supposed to be the "fly by the seat of her pants girl." I could be wrong and of course everything could go a twisty curvy like it usually does. I wish that my family liked Alias as much as I do. Oh well, I guess I will have to stick with Sara my Alias-watching buddy.:)

I could be wrong about Grace. He might be our Mr. Nice Guy. I just wonder what the significance of the bar fight scene is. Is it meant to show him as a push over, because he got his a$$ kicked, or was it suppose to cast him as outspoken guy? Hmm

I'm really excited to see Grace and Rachel's characters develope in general. I really like how the show didn't start and we had these characters already there, but they're here for a purpose. It will be nice to have some new faces on the scene. Carrie was once a new face and she was one of my favorites, I hope they bring her back on. Even Sark was at one time a newbie. I think this is a good change.

i think your thoughts on tom grace are right on...(nice title by the way)

i definitely think (having hindsight as my benefit here) that they did a great job making the new characters (especially rachel) endearing to us faithful fans. i think grace has a really subtle and egdy sense of humor that we will get to see more of....if he turned out to be bad i would be really surprised (of course it IS alias we are talking about) i can see him reluctantly becoming part of the family even though he is a self-proclaimed loner.....
