"I'm here, she's here, we made it."

Indeed, we have made it. It's really happening. In 4 short weeks I am headed to Chicago to meet up with loyal blog-followers Fu, Des and Jenni. I am so very excited to spend a weekend watching our favorite episodes, reminiscing about the good old days of Alias (or TV in general) and actually SEEING each other in real life. And again, another thank you to all who made and still make this blog what it was and still is- a place for smart people, who enjoy smart TV to talk. I have a feeling that there will be a lot of that happening once I arrive in Illinois. Stay tuned!!

Like we need another streaming service. I don't consume much (any) Bad Robot programming these days, but I would rather see Netflix get Bad Robot than a streamer that hasn't even debuted yet (and which will be more expensive).

I'm just not going to pay for 47 different streaming channels (see what I did there?)

Trailer for "Charlie's Angels", 2019-style.

Page48 said...

A little "Angel" reunion clip.

Since BtVS debuted in 1997, David Boreanaz (Angel himself) has starred in 3 consecutive shows (BtVS, "Bones", and "SEAL Team") without a single TV season of unemployment. I think it's safe to say he likes working in TV more than Jen.

I'm with the Dalai Lama on this one.

A smokin' Dalai Lama is the game-changer we've all been looking for.

Page48 said...

One of my guilty pleasures is watching the pint-size Hit Girl take out the trash in "Kick-Ass". That never gets old.

Page48 said...

Oh crap, I forgot to clear my running shoes with Colin Kaepernick before I left the house this morning.

uncle111 said...

There are WAY too many people with too much time on their hands. And this is a perfect example. You can't even see the flags on the shoes unless you're looking for them. This also screams liberal intolerance.

Page48 said...

I guess what Nike is admitting by pulling those shoes from the market is that they have a culture of racism running rampant in their design department and are unable to police themselves without the heroic intervention of an unemployable football player.

Nike might as well make this clown their CEO.

Page48 said...

Quentin Tarantino was great in his brief "Alias" stint, but I've never had any use for anything else he's ever done. So if he is about to quit the movie biz, I absolutely won't miss him.

Page48 said...

Full trailer for the return of "Veronica Mars", HULU-style.

Page48 said...

I think I quit watching "Arrow" sometime in S3. I was good with Oliver Queen being The Hood, but when it became clear that everyone on the show would soon be sporting capes and masks and becoming superheroes (I should've seen it coming), I had to get out.

Seems now that it will max out at about 170 episodes and I believe that, among the earlier regular cast, only Oliver and Diggle are around for the final season.

Doesn't seem right to me that "Alias" got 105 eppies, "Fringe" an even 100, and POI just 103, but "Arrow" is allowed to run so much longer. And, don't look now, but "Arrow" spinoff "Legends of Tomorrow" is up to 70 episodes itself.

Lesson here: superhero = longevity.

Page48 said...

I'm going to check this one out ("Departure"). It has a number of familiar faces. Those Brits love their 6-episode seasons, so it won't take much time to consume.

Page48 said...

As noted in the title, Katee Sackhoff is all-systems-go to return to space (aka the final frontier).

Sure, she was sidelined for a few years in Wyoming ("Lomgmire") but all the while, space was beckoning. And, you know how it goes. When space beckons....

Page48 said...

I'll check out this new show come the fall (or whenever it debuts). Throw in a little sci-fi, a little conspiracy, and I will give a show a chance. ABC's track record in recent years is DISMAL, so I won't get my hopes up.

Page48 said...

Been falling wayyyyyyy behind in my movies. Just finished "The Equalizer 2". Of course, when you watch "The Equalizer 2", you know what's going to happen, but it's still fun watching Denzel take care of bizness (with, I might add, well deserved extreme prejudice)

Page48 said...

Trailer for "Top Gun: Maverick" is out. I never watched the original. I've seen a few frames, but the subject matter never really appealed to me.

I might watch this one, though. I have a better appreciation for Tom Cruise movies these days than I did back in the 80's.

Page48 said...

I quit watching "Supergirl" early in S2 because it came out of the closet as a shameless left wing, SJW nonsense dispenser. I was just reading a bunch of reviews on the IMDB page and, whaddya know. I'm not the only one that doesn't want my TV spewing radical AOC-worthy BS when all I tune in for is a little bit of (hopefully) well-written escapism.

There was a time when it would have been safe to watch a show called "Supergirl", but this is not that time, and if I had kids, they would not get near this show.

Page48 said...

Would I pay good money to watch Tom Hanks as Mr. Rogers? No. I didn't even watch the real Mr. Rogers.

Page48 said...

While Mr. Rogers isn't gonna float my boat, I may give "Star Trek: Picard" a try. Sadly, it's on Amazon (cuz nothing is on TV anymore).

Page48 said...

A little slide-show dealing with the hits and misses of "Fringe" vs. "The X-Files".

Page48 said...

RIP Rutger Hauer.

His role of Geiger in "Alias" (the legendary episode "Phase One") wasn't a big one, but it was a beauty. Goosebumps!!

Page48 said...

Kelly McGillis stating the obvious, although she's only 5 years older than Tom Cruise.

Page48 said...

One more season of MAOS airs next summer, but filming for the series finale ended a couple of days ago. That's quite a lag. Two-hour season finale airs tomorrow night. Two-hour season finales used to be pretty standard, but I've noticed that it's more of a rarity nowadays.

Page48 said...

Speaking of series finales, "iZombie" had its this evening. A good-humoured show. Well acted by Rose McIver (everyone on TV is Australian these days but you never know it until they do an interview).

David "Julian Sark" Anders squeezed out 69 episodes, eclipsing his 56 episodes of "Alias".

Page48 said...

Here's what I learned today. I knew that, pre-Alias, Jen had appeared in some P.O.S. show called "Time of Your Life". BUT, what I didn't know until today, is that TOYL was an ill-fated spin-off of "Party of Five".

Page48 said...

So, now that de-aging technology is a thing, it's conceivable that when (okay, if) we get our "Alias" reboot, the story could just pick up in 2006, as if the events of "All the Time in the World" had just taken place, which could add years to the storyline. Of course, this is pure wishful thinking, but all that would be required is a willingness to make it happen.

Page48 said...

I was just watching the Netflix version of "Truth be Told" and I just can't get over the change in music for that final scene. The original is perfect and should never have been tampered with. I remember it like it was yesterday, yet it was 18 years ago.

I don't know anything about Liam Hemsworth, but if he was able to stay married to Miley Cyrus for a whole 8 months, he's a better man than I'll ever be.

Page48 said...

Here's a short trailer for USA's upcoming Bourne spinoff, "Treadstone".

It was a short clip, so didn't shine much light on what to expect. But clearly, USA is going back to it's 'blue-sky' programming that gave us "Burn Notice" and "Covert Affairs".

Page48 said...

I've recently watched a bunch of videos on "The Dave Cullen Show" Youtube channel. He talks about a lot of the sci-fi shows and movies that we're all familiar with. Uncle, I think you'd appreciate his take on the direction that "Doctor Who" has taken in recent years. A sign of the SJW/PC/Woke times we live in.

Page48 said...

Am I "extremely upset" that Spidey may be dropped from the Marvel Cinematic Universe? You bet I'm not. I don't care AT ALL, but I couldn't help but notice that Twitter was completely bent out of shape over that last night. Honestly, people.

Page48 said...

Apparently LGBTQI2S+ is a thing. Looks like a medium strength password to me. Maybe I should use that for my online banking.

Alphabet soup identities make me sick.

Page48 said...

Between de-aging technology and deepfakes, it won't be long until we don't even need Jen or Victor Garber or anyone else to do an "Alias" reboot. Junior will be able to pull this off in his mom's basement and post it on Youtube (copyright infringement notwithstanding).

And, if he knows how to tell a great story, I'll watch it.

Page48 said...

"Pennyworth" IMDB page.

For the record, I don't need an Alfred (think Batman) origin story. I never needed an Alfred origin story. I never will need an Alfred origin story. Just more super hero/comic book madness.

Page48 said...

CBS has decided not to go ahead with their new spy-thriller "Surveillance". I'm sure they'll have no trouble finding some rubbish to present in its place.

Page48 said...

A little teaser for the final season of MAOS. And, it's only a year away. Chances are, you won't remember the teaser by then.

Page48 said...

So this just happened. I was just checking to see what date "Fringe" debuted (it will be 11 years next Monday). While I was viewing some Youtube video from that first episide, I received a rare Google Alert I set up years ago for Fringe/Abrams. Coincidence or perhaps a Fringe Event?

Page48 said...

When I fired up my browser this morning, I couldn't help but notice this Reader's Digest article about "little sex mistakes you don't realize you're making". Then I looked at the picture, and RIGHT AWAY, I knew what they meant. Thank God I have Reader's Digest to help me avoid awkward stuff like that.

Page48 said...

25th anniversary of "Friends", which coincides with the 25th anniversary of my never having watched an episode of "Friends".

Page48 said...

Septembers past have given us some notable gems, including most of the Bad Robot catalogue of hits: "Alias" in 2001, "Lost" in 2004, "Fringe" in 2008, and POI in 2011.

We know that Bad Robot won't be giving us jack squat this September (extending their dry spell to 8 long years, cuz I'm not really counting the disappointing "Revolution"), so who's gonna step up and fill that void? My guess? No one.

BUT, I will give "Emergence" a try on September 24 because genre shows are my thing. Of course, with a kid, you run into the whole "Opie grows up" problem (the same problem that would have plagued Bad Robot's "Believe", had it lasted more that half a season), so we already know it won't be on for 7 years.

Page48 said...

Eleven years ago tonight:

Olivia: "I just want to go back to before"

Broyles: "Dunham...I don't think you can"

I miss these characters.

Page48 said...

I mentioned deepfake videos the other day. I just finished watching the first 2 eppies of the new BBC thriller, "The Capture", which deals with the sinister use of deepfake CCTV surveillance videos in London. Shades of POI at work in this one as well.

Page48 said...

Here's a lot of blah blah blah about JJ Abrams new mega-deal with Warner Media. Nowhere in here is there any hope for another 100+ episode Bad Robot series on broadcast TV such as we were treated to on multiple occasions during the first 10 years of this century. From here on it, rest assured that it's all going to continue to be short season series on HBO or the like.

Page48 said...

It's one thing for some clown to declare he's now a "they" or a "them", but what does it say about the Associated Press when it plays along with the clown's nonsense?

Page48 said...

It's been over 9 years since "Rubicon". Axed after 13 eppies. Where was the justice in that?

Page48 said...

So one of the "big" stories of the day is that "Seinfeld" is coming to Netflix in 2021, to which I say "who cares?". Don't get me wrong, I like Jerry, but I'm sure I never saw more than 10% of the show when it was still a going concern, so I'm hardly likely to start binge-watching in 2 years. Just sayin'.

Page48 said...

Love seeing the internet get lit up like a Christmas tree over the indiscretions of our useless, self-righteous, unqualified, unaccomplished, faux feminist, virtue-signaling, insufferably woke man-child Prime Minister.

Page48 said...

Why is this kid getting the celebrity treatment these days? She's not saying anything that we don't hear every time AOC or Naomi Klein goes on a Twitter Tirade.

Page48 said...

"Lost" debuted 15 years ago last night. It was, at the time, the most expensive TV pilot ever made and, to this day, I haven't seen it. I can't remember when I joined in on "Lost", but I wasn't there at the beginning.

Tomorrow night, Sept. 24, "Emergence", the latest in a longgggggggg list of "Lost" wannabes steps up to the plate with dreams of hitting it out of the park. "Legacy TV" being the misery that it is today, my guess it will come up massively short of being the next "Lost". BUT, unlike with "Lost", I'll be there to watch the pilot because it's one of the VERY few new possibilities on the 2019-2020 schedule.

Page48 said...

What it looks like when you've made too many trips to the Kool-Aid bar.

Page48 said...

"Walker, Texas Ranger" is the latest reboot not named "Alias".

Page48 said...

18 years ago tonight, we were shocked to learn that Jack "Daddy" Bristow did NOT sell airplane parts, and that, truth be told, he NEVER sold airplane parts. And so it began.

Page48 said...

You can always count on De Niro to keep it classy.

Page48 said...

Watched Michael Emerson's new show, "Evil". His hair isn't spikey like Harold Finch's was. And, oh yeah, he's evil. Well, his character is.

Page48 said...

S7 of "The Blacklist" kicking off tonight. Does anyone still care who Red really is?

Page48 said...

So, "Joker" is an origin story. But, the thing is, I've never once in my life been curious about the Joker's origin. Or the Penguin's origin. Or Mr. Freeze's origin. Just don't care. I've never even been curious about Commissioner Gordon's origin story. Nothing personal, Commissioner.

Page48 said...

Finished all 6 eppies of "The Capture". A very nice little thriller. I watched it at the link.

Page48 said...

One look at Twitter tells me that this is #ComingOutDay, but my cell phone still calls it Friday. My cell phone isn't woke.

Page48 said...

Tuesday sees the debut of the sort-of Jason Bourne spinoff, "Treadstone" on USA Network. A few familiar faces. Don't, however, expect USA to inject any of the charm of their bygone spy shows like "Burn Notice" or "Covert Affairs". Those days are gone. Sadly.

Page48 said...

For folks keeping score at home, my pronouns are he/him.

Page48 said...

The latest project from ex-Bad Robotians Pinkner, Nemec, Applebaum and Rosenberg (okay, they just have "producer" credits) is "Limetown", starring Jessica Biel, Stanley Tucci and a few other familiar faces.

I just watched the first 2 episodes (only 30 minutes each) on Facebook Watch. This is a "thriller" based on a popular podcast that I've never heard.

It's an interesting way to consume "TV", and hey, it's not behind a paywall like literally everything else worthy of watching today. That's not to say that it's a brilliant show so far, but I like the idea that I don't have to subscribe to anything, including Facebook, to watch it.

Page48 said...

I'll admit it, I have no idea what "Star Wars" is really all about. Until JJ got involved with "The Force Awakens", I had never watched 5 minutes of any SW movie. JJ did not write the next installment, nor did I watch it (not yet anyway).

Now, JJ is back, having penned "The Rise of the Skywalker". Here, he has employed a few actors from his past series, "Felicity", "Alias", and "Lost". I'm sure I'll watch this one, but at the end of the day, I'm just watching it as a standalone movie, rather than trying to understand how it figures into the bigger SW universe, which I'll never actually care about.

Page48 said...

I'm not a consumer of Scorsese or Coppola movies, but there is SOOOOOOOO much truth in this article.

Two lines in particular stood out for me:

1) "They're basically making the same movie over and over again, and seducing all of the talent." This is what's become of Bad Robot, who used to spin original stories and now just splash around in the franchise pool.

2) "They're so similar that even Gwyneth Paltrow can't remember which ones she's in." That just speaks for itself.

Enough with the superhero assembly line.

Page48 said...

I'm currently watching the new BBC mini-series adaptation of "The War of the Worlds". I've previously seen the Tom Cruise movie version, but this one is set in the original time period. Stars Robert Carlyle. It's available here.

And, yeah, call me old-fashioned (or just old), but it's nice to watch something that isn't completely peppered with f-bombs.

Page48 said...

Is it too soon to miss "The Americans"? I don't think so. It's hard to believe it's already a year and a half since it ended. Here's another look at the final scene of a brilliant spy show.

Page48 said...

So, I'm 2 eppies into USA Network's "Treadstone" now and I like it so far. Not big on humour as that is no longer part of USA's formula, but, at the same time, not so dark that it's not enjoyable. Certainly not as grim as "Mr. Robot". Action oriented, as you would expect a Bourne-based show to be.

It's not easy for us spy-freaks to find a show to watch these days, so I'll keep monitoring this one to see where it goes.

Page48 said...

About 4 weeks into Michael Emerson's new show, "Evil". Emerson was the nasty Ben Linus in "Lost" and I thought I'd never get used to him being the good guy on POI, but eventually I did and now it's just as hard seeing him as the no-goodnik again on "Evil". The show itself (which has already been renewed for a 2nd season) hasn't proven itself to be anything special yet.

Page48 said...

Hmmm, Christmas movies out the ying-yang this year? Gotta say, I NEVER watch ANY of them, and I can save everyone the trouble:

1) lonely widower/divorcee (not interested in dating) with young daughter
2) single woman who can't seem to find a good man
3) young daughter finds a way to bring them together
4) they all live happily ever after (and maybe get a dog)
5) The End.

See how much time you just saved?

Side note: because this is 2019, half of these movies may actually see the lonely widower hook up with another lonely widower and their new puppy may be gender-fluid. The young daughter will, of course, be in "transition" and insist on being called "they". Merry Christmas indeed!

Say what, now? Queen Latifah as "The Equalizer" in yet another reboot of a show that isn't "Alias".

This is an LOL moment if ever there was one.

A World Series champ dons a MAGA hat at the White House and Twitter loses its sh*!.

Had he donned a dress and called himself Caitlyn, Twitter would have given him a standing ovation and the keys to the city.

Just sayin'

Page48 said...

"Burn Notice" creator is back in the ring to take another swing. This time it's a sci-fi thingy based on some book I've never heard of. Good luck to him. I don't think he'll ever have a better run than "Burn Notice" though.

Have no fear, for angry teenage girls are here to save the world (presumably from the rest of us).

Alrighty then, I'll sleep like a baby tonight.

Page48 said...

I'm confused. Is today "Transgender Day of Remembrance" or "World Children's Day"? Or is it possible it's just Wednesday? Twitter has me all mixed up.

uncle111 said...

Poor teenage baby. Maybe she'll grow up and figure things out.

As for TDR...(the rest is being left blank because I have brain cells that still function and which know normal from abnormal..besides having a degree in psychology.)

Page48 said...

Just finished S2 of "Jack Ryan" and am keeping up with "Treadstone".

"Jack Ryan" is a straight-forward CIA drama with Jack Ryan (obviously) being the fearless hero. "Treadstone" is one of those shows that goes back and forth between 2 diffrent timelines (the 70's and today) and follows a number of different threads. It's about a number of Bourne-like operatives around the world being "activated" for a purpose that is not yet clear.

Both shows feature globe-trotting operatives doing what they do, but "Treadstone" is the more "out there" of the two, as you would imagine with a bunch of triggered Jason Bourne types dealing with their newly awakened realities.

Page48 said...

I'm just binge-watching the final season of the excellent "Man in the High Castle" and who strolls onto the set but Rachel Nichols.

The two women who joined "Alias" for the final season (Amy Acker and Rachel Nichols) have both gone on to star in excellent sci-fi shows (POI for Acker, "Continuum" and MITHC for Nichols), while their co-star Jen has preferred to flog credit cards. Dang!

Page48 said...

Speaking of the ladies of "Alias", Lena Olin is in for the upcoming Amazon show, "Hunters", along with W13's Artie and Walter Bishop (1 episode) and some guy named Pacino.

uncle111 said...

I think Jen has immersed herself in her husband and kids to try save their family. I'd love something Alias-ish, but I would never have her trade family for job.

Page48 said...

I wouldn't have her trade her family for a job, but when she does find that rare opportunity to do a series, I WOULD have her trade this rubbish for something that rises to the level of entertainment. Learning to say "No" to Lena Dunham would be a good place to start.

Page48 said...

I've always believed that "Black Widow" is where the fun is in "The Avengers" gang because of stuff like this. And, who can for get this?

Page48 said...

So now, 10 years after Natasha put Coulson on hold, she finally has her own movie.

The best part of the whole Black Widow deal is that she has no super powers. She's the Sydney Bristow of "The Avengers" (leaving out the former KGB assassin part). She just does it with her mad skills. And, the movie has Florence Pugh in it, too, which is a good thing.

Page48 said...

Final season of "Homeland" kicks off Feb. 9th, almost 2 years after the previous episode. That is a LONG time to remember what the heck is going on.

Page48 said...

Wow, another shining light (they were calling this clown a "legend" on Twitter yesterday) we'll just have to learn to live without.

Juice Wrld: sounds like a fast-food spot or OJ Simpson's trophy room.

Page48 said...

JK Rowling backed some chick who "who lost her job after posting a series of tweets in opposition to the UK government’s proposed plan to reform the Gender Recognition Act to legally allow people to self-identify as their preferred gender" and the moronic Twitter-mob has been ripping Rowling to shreds all day.

Oh dear, oh dear. Imagine all those woke folks burning their Harry Potter collection tonight. It will be visible from the Space Station. Those books would burn for hours.

Page48 said...

Trailer for an upcoming Christopher Nolan movie, an action piece of some sort. Looks kind of interesting (and no one wears a cape, at least not in the trailer).

Has a number of familiar faces: Michael Caine, Denzel's son, Clemence Poesy from "The Tunnel" (the series finale will break your heart), Kenneth Branagh of "Wallander" fame, and Elizabeth Debicki (who's in a lot of stuff these days, including "The Man From U.N.C.L.E").

Page48 said...

Just finished off S1 of "Treadstone". Decent show. I'm not a huge fan of the flashback method of storytelling. There's enough going on in the present day. A Bourne spinoff with all the F-bombs that Bourne doesn't have.

Page48 said...

I just can't comprehend why anyone at all would pay to see "Cats", but apparently some people couldn't wait to be separated from their money.

Sounds like they came to their senses a tad too late. I suspect that the chances of a sequel are extra-slim.

Page48 said...

Something called Lizzo is TIME's 2019 "Entertainer of the Year". I have no freaking clue who or what Lizzo is. Apparently, I need a crash course on popular culture. Although, I doubt I'd be any better off.

Page48 said...

It wasn't that long ago that we'd be watching the "Doctor Who" Christmas special in this particular time slot. Times change, and not always for the better.

Speaking of times changing, we've seen a few great blogs go dark in the last couple of years. Televisonary used to be a must-read for episode recaps of "Chuck", among others. Fringebloggers and Seriable are both deceased. The domain names are still in use, but Roco has bailed and they are no longer TV blogs, just rubbish websites.

The glory days of TV blogging, not unlike the glory days of TV (talking mainstream TV here) itself, appear to be behind us. It's hard to imagine finding inspiration in anything that has appeared on mainstream TV in the last 5 years.

Page48 said...

Need an illustration of how time slips away?

I'm currently watching the closing credits for "Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader". I knew that we had discussed Narnia here on LTA, so I Googled it up and here we go.

This is Uncle's post from 10 whole years ago when Dawn Treader was still more than a year away from release. Now I just finished watching the end of that movie and it's already 9 years old.

Life comes at ya fast.

Page48 said...

The current season (5) of "Supergirl" will see it eclipse great shows like "Alias", "Fringe" and "Person of Interest" in total number episodes. And, that isn't right.

Page48 said...

We almost got thru 2019 without an "Alias" reboot story, but....saved by the bell. Nothing new here. Just more chit chat from a guy who doesn't know anything we don't know.

Page48 said...

More faint hope for an "Alias" reboot. Can you tell JJ has a new movie coming out????? The headline is more than a little misleading.

Page48 said...

I give Jen a lot of grief over her acting choices, but I am SOOOOOOOOOOOO appreciative of her decision to stay the hell off of Twitter.

Page48 said...

Now THIS is a Sydney Bristow fan. I approve.

Page48 said...

Got around to watching "The Mummy" (Tom Cruise edition) last night. It was heavily panned at the time, so my expectations were low. I didn't think it was horrible. The usual Cruise charm and a run time of less than 2 hours. A bit of harmless fluff at a time of year when there isn't much to choose from on TV.

Tonight it's the return of Doctor Her. Oh, for the days of David Tennant and Matt Smith.

LTA trivia: the first comment of 3rd decade of LTA's existence is officially in the books. Next milestone to fall: the 5th anniversary of this blog post coming up in August.

Page48 said...

Wouldn't JJ prefer to go back to creating original material than to keep getting bogged down in the endless criticism and fanboy BS that comes with getting mixed up in franchises like "Star Wars"?

Page48 said...

World's most dangerous occupation? Rapper. Hands down.

Page48 said...

Let's go hunt us some Nazis. We got "Irina Derevko", "Walter Bishop", Artie from W13, "Percy Jackson" and some guy named Pacino.

This is a new trailer for "Hunters".

Page48 said...

I'm really looking forward to checking out the return of Jean-Luc Picard in a couple of weeks.

Some familiar ST faces, some "Alias" and "Fringe" personnel (both in front of the camera and behind) and a 10 episode serialized story. And he even calls his dog Number One. I love it.

Page48 said...

Oh for the days of THIS "Doctor Who". Ten years ago this summer. I can't believe that. DW hasn't really been the same since that first season with Matt Smith.

Page48 said...

Golden Globes tonight. It's clear as I check out the list of nominees and winners that I have no freaking clue about the shows that people are watching these days. Never heard of many of them.

I have a question, though, and this is deadly serious in 2020. The Golden Globes have a best Actor category and a best Actress category, but are you telling me that, if I'm an outstanding Actor who identifies as an Actress, that there is no category that I can be nominated in, let alone win?

What an outrage!!

I'm TRIGGERED!

Page48 said...

Golden Globes: "Alias" guest stars Ricky Gervais and Quentin Tarantino are in the house.

#notwatchingtheGoldenGlboes

Page48 said...

In honour of Ricky Gervais's take-down of the Hollywood crowd the other night, I thought this little clip was worthy of a revisit.

This clip looks old. A reminder of how long ago "Alias" really was.

Page48 said...

OMG, I just sat through a brutal episode of "Doctor Her". This show is headed in the WRONG direction. And, as if this eppie ("Orphan 55") wasn't lame enough, it ends, as one reviewer put it: "The Doctor finishes the episode with a speech by Greta Thunberg."

Lecturing, preaching, harassing viewers about global warming, mass migration and all the usual woke talking points is truly disgusting. Time for a new show-runner already. Preferably in time to save the show from a dismal downhill spiral.

Page48 said...

"Walker, Texas Ranger" is back. No word yet on "Alias"....or "Chuck". Or pretty much anything else that I might be interested in. I was never a faithful watcher of W,TR

And, she apparently grew up on all the same music I did (just 40 years later).

Page48 said...

This. "Alias" perfection.

uncle111 said...

Oh yea! That one really grabs me. I may have to pull out the DVDs and rewatch the whole series again. It's been a few years.

Page48 said...

Uncle, I've still only watched the full series twice and the 2nd time was shortly after the show ended.

When you hear dialogue like "you just threw your beeper in the Pacific", you realize how much younger we all were when we sat, glued to our old TVs, watching "Alias" roll out in real time.

Page48 said...

"Alias" alum, Tarantino, steps up and appears to back what Scorsese said earlier about the movie industry being basically taken over by caped crusaders. I don't watch Tarantino movies as a rule, but I tend to agree that things have gotten out of control with Marvel and, to a lesser extend, DC.

BTW, that website I linked to is BRUTAL to wade through.

Page48 said...

Just settling in for the debut of "Star Trek: Picard" in about 5 minutes. Engage!

Page48 said...

A very nice debut for Picard's new show. And, of course, a much more modern look to it than the old series.

It's laced with Bad Robot reminders. Francie had her one-and-done episode. Orla Brady (aka Walter Bishop's wife) is on board for 2 episodes. And, of course, Kurtzman and Goldsman are running the show. The young woman at the center of the story even threw down some Sydney Bristow moves.

I think this will be everything "Star Trek: Discovery" isn't.

Page48 said...

If you need proof that time flies: "Salt" was 10 years ago.

Page48 said...

"You came back for me"

Speaking of time flying, remember when Alt-Broyles came back to rescue Olivia and it cost him his life? Dec. 2, 2010. Wow! There's nothing on TV right now that measures up to that.

Page48 said...

Accidentally find myself watching tonight's 170th and final episode of "Arrow". I have know clue what's going on besides wall-to-wall violence.

The show was watchable in the beginning, when Ollie was cleaning up the city, solo-style, but I just had to shut it down when literally everybody on the show became a bona fide superhero. There's ridiculous and then there's over-the-top ridiculous.

Page48 said...

I'm watching the season finale of "Emergence" (the only new show of the season worth watching, IMO). This Tweet appears minutes ago.

Page48 said...

On this Super Bowl Sunday, every "Alias" fan hearkens back to Super Bowl Sunday 2003, a scant 17 years ago, when we were treated to "Phase One".

Imagine having to wait for a football game to end (do they ever end?) to get to this episode.

Page48 said...

I was thinking of watching "Incredibles 2", but after reading some IMDB reviews like this one, uhhhh, maybe not tonight.

I'd prefer a SJW-free movie experience.

uncle111 said...

Page 48,I have a lot of posts I need to reply to, but it's just been crazy here with business, health issues, family stuff and trying to make a living with a changing (diminishing) customer base. Fortunately I recently sold some things on eBay that will pay rent on my business for a couple of months.

I haven't seen the movie in question, but it is a sad trend and it's keeping me away from a lot of movies and TV shows. I just don't want to lose my supper while watching "entertainment" that is not entertaining.

Page48 said...

Uncle, I think movies and TV shows should now come with a SJW rating, so if we reallllly feel like being brow-beaten by the PC crowd, we can choose something with a high SJW rating, say 4 out of 5 SJWs or something like that. If all we want is to watch a good show or movie (to possibly escape all the BS for an hour or two), then we can either choose something with a low SJW rating or just watch something produced at least 10 years ago.

I fear for what "Alias" would look like if it debuted in 2020 instead of 2001. Will Tippin would be dating Jimmy instead of Jenny. Sydney would be fighting carbon emissions instead of K-Directorate. Arvin Sloane would be the evil head of FOX News instead of SD-6. Vaughn would be taken down by the #MeToo movement for telling Sydney "you've got my number". Marshall would be declared a racist and torn to shreds on Twitter. Dixon would be accused of cultural appropriation for wearing African garb while on a mission with Sydney. It just wouldn't be the same show.

Health issues, family stuff and trying to make a living!! Ain't that the truth??

Page48 said...

Wow! What was I just saying 2 hours ago about "Alias" in 2020? This is JJ and his wife getting woke right before your very eyes.

To which I say, drop the virtue signalling and go back to making great TV shows if you can still remember how. Diversity and gender equality are NOT the key ingredients of great television. Making white black, making straight gay, making male female will not save a bad TV show. Concentrate on the writing and the story telling and cast the most compelling actors and we'll let you know if your snow sucks or not.

uncle111 said...

Page48,couldn't have said it ant better myself!!!

Page48 said...

"Homeland" returns tonight to kick off its final season, almost 2 years after the end of the previous season. Nothing politically correct about Carrie Matheson.

Page48 said...

The latest "non-news" about an "Alias" reboot. Skip to the last paragraph of the first story on the page.

Page48 said...

JH Wyman went from "Fringe", straight into "Almost Human" (remember those 13 episodes?), then vanished for 6 years. Now, he's attempting a comeback with "Debris" on NBC.

Page48 said...

I was afraid Billie Eilish's Bond theme song, "No Time to Die" might be an abomination, but I think she did a respectable job. She's not Adele singing "Skyfall" or Paul singing "Live and Let Die", but still adequate.

Page48 said...

Dixie Chicks banging out some Bob Dylan. Great song.

Page48 said...

Final season of "Strike Back" is one episode old and the body count is already high. The life span of a bad guy on that show is lower than the national average. Way lower.

Page48 said...

There are only 2 places to find TV work these days: Marvel and DC. Carl Lumbly will soon be familiar with both. Having already appeared in "Supergirl", he's now suiting up for Marvel on Disney+.

Page48 said...

I like this guy's message to celebrities. He stopped just short of telling them all to shut up and sing. But will they listen? Are you kidding? Can you picture DeNiro taking heed of advice like this? Or Meryl Streep? Ha!

Page48 said...

Did somebody say "47"?

Page48 said...

Affleck's biggest regret is that he divorced Jen.

Bruh, you should have swung by LTA to get a little free advice. We're here to help.

Page48 said...

"The Blacklist" renewed for an 8th season. I'm not convinced that it's more deserving of an 8th season than "Alias" was of a 6th season, but that's life I guess.

Page48 said...

Am I stoked for an unscripted "Friends" reunion on HBO Max? Oh, you better believe I'm not.

First of all, I've NEVER watched an episode of "Friends", but more to the point, an unscripted reunion is just a televised excuse for celebrities to get their celebrity on.

Oh, I know what you're thinking, would I watch if it was an unscripted "Alias" reunion? Probably, but I suspect it would ring just as hollow as for any other show. A reboot is one thing, a cast get-together is something they could do at a restaurant on their own time.

Page48 said...

"Alias" only ran for 4.77 seasons, but it's already been 10 years since the "Alias" reboot rumours started. I posted this link 5 years ago, but it's worth a revisit.

Page48 said...

We just passed the 10th anniversary of the series finale of "Dollhouse". Had high hopes for that one, but, as soon as it started to get interesting....Poof, Gone.

Page48 said...

"Oh my God, Magnum". This conversation.

Page48 said...

H50 ending after 10 seasons. Got about 130 more episodes than "Alias" and wasn't nearly as good a show. Not nearly.

Page48 said...

The local sci-fi channel running a Jason Bourne marathon tonight. I just wish I hadn't already seen them all several times. We need a new Jason Bourne type to step up and fill the void.

Page48 said...

There's an old saying in sports: "Defense wins championships". Buy, hey, that was before woke came to town.

Now we all realize that "Diversity wins championships". What a time to be alive!!

Page48 said...

Coronavirus update: I don't have it yet, but I'm prepared to stay home from work tomorrow. For the people.

Page48 said...

I'll be COMPLETELY unaffected by this list of shows shutting down due to coronavirus. They could all be cancelled and I wouldn't notice.

Page48 said...

So, all major sports are on hiatus, and almost all movies and TV productions are on hold. I see a future of "Lassie" reruns. Mind you, I was a big fan of "Lassie" back in the day. Good girl!

Page48 said...

Tough times call for a light-hearted Jimmy Fallon/Jennifer Garner chat.

Jen, CALL ME! Seriously, just call me. It's not too late. I've still got a few good years left, notwithstanding the whole pandemic thing. We'd make a great team, you and me...and you.

Page48 said...

Michonne, we hardly knew ya. After 128 eppies (some credit only), Michonne takes her leave from "The Walking Dead". Only 2 original characters left, proving that everyone can be replaced.

Page48 said...

Social Distancing means Jen and I can't have a date night this week. Or ever.

Page48 said...

"Alias" is on someone's mind. I've seen at least half of these shows.

Page48 said...

Current status: I am not now, nor will I ever be watching "Tiger King". Just sayin'.

Page48 said...

I see that AMC is running the awesome "Line of Duty", from the beginning. Bent coppers beware.

Page48 said...

So, ABC's "Modern Family" wrapped up after 11 seasons (remember 2009, when you could leave your house?). I never saw an episode (of the 250) and I never will.

Page48 said...

Arvin Sloane: self-isolating for 14 years. Keeping everyone safe.

Page48 said...

Possibly the BEST thing to come out of this pandemic. A "Chuck" reunion on ZOOM with a table-read of a S3 episode, "Chuck Versus The Beard".

The table read part is a tough slog, but if anything could ignite a real "Chuck" reunion, this is the sort of thing that could tip the scales. There is something in the accompanying interview that disturbs me, though. The creators of the show are speculating about what the show would look like if it was airing today and the answer was that "it might need an edgier tone" and that "in today’s day and age, there’s sometimes a need for things to be serious and people to be professional". I don't agree with that AT ALL. I thing "Chuck" struck exactly the right balance of comedy and drama. It was meant to be that way.

BTW, Sarah and Yvonne are still gorgeous. I'd would take either one of them to the prom. Of course, it would have to be against their will, but still...

uncle111 said...

Page48,

Thanks for your post. I'll try to watch that. I've been thinking about breaking it out and doing another series rewatch. Our mayor has told all non-essential businesses (which they would consider mine to be)to close their doors for now because of the coronavirus. So I've been going in, locking my door, working on some high dollar airsoft pistols that I bought years ago and turning them into airsoft replica Man From UNCLE guns and selling them on eBay. I may be making more on those than I would be if I was open for local business. Everything is a little crazy right now. Oh, I've also been doing a series rewatch of Alias. But, I'd still like things to get back to normal.

Page48 said...

Uncle, "back to normal" has a nice ring to it. Can you imagine being on lockdown in the days before high speed internet? Doesn't bear thinking about.

I wonder how long before the "Alias" ZOOM reunion takes place. When celebrities get bored, things can happen. And, if they're not bored now, I don't know what it would take.

Page48 said...

Only one more episode of "Homeland" before it fades to black like so many great shows before it. 96 episodes of Saul and Carrie comes up just short of "Alias" and "Fringe", BUT it took "Homeland" almost 9 years to get here.

Page48 said...

"Homeland" series finale was a wild and crazy affair, but ultimately gave viewers what we needed.

I also watched the series finale (I think it was actually the 3rd series finale) of "Strike Back" and before long, I'll see the series finale of "Cardinal", MAOS, "Blindspot" and "The 100". In other words, I will soon have a lot more time on my hands.

If I run out of things to watch and we're still in lockdown, I'm going to be verrrry cranky.

Page48 said...

You know you're watching your life disappear in the rear-view mirror when someone writes "as a kid, I loved watching Sydney Bristow, played fabulously by Jennifer Garner, and I wanted to be a kick-ass spy just like her when I grew up"

Page48 said...

And, BTW (re: the previous link), who the hell is Arvin Sorkin? Asking for a friend.

Page48 said...

"The Blacklist" just name-dropped Chuck and Morgan.

uncle111 said...

I quit The Blacklist several seasons ago. I caught a few minutes of it recently. I didn't even recognize it. Couldn't tell if it was something I'd be interested in anymore or not. I seldom watch anything but dvds if I want to watch something interesting. A sorry state of affairs for tv.

Page48 said...

Yup, a sorry state for sure, and only going to get sorrier for the legacy networks, until they eventually just get out of the business altogether, the way AM radio got out of the music business.

"The Blacklist" is already up to 150 episodes, or +/- 50% more than great shows like "Alias", "Fringe", POI (to name a few) and twice as many eppies as "Covert Affairs" got.

"The Blacklist" is a show that goes round and round in circles to the point where you can't even remember if you ever cared in the first place, and if you did, what was it you cared about? I haven't quit it, but it's much more a habit than must-see-TV.

Page48 said...

I hear all this talk about COVID-19 spawning the Big Brotherish "contact tracing" surveillance state and it reminds me of the evil Samaritan computer system in "Person of Interest". Zeroing in on people's faces, taking their temperature, deciding their fate. We're gonna need Finch, Reese, Root and Shaw. Maybe even Fusco.

uncle111 said...

I gave up on "The Blacklist" seasons ago. And yes this does look more and more like "the Machine."

Page48 said...

"Haladki" from S1 of "Alias" (remember the talk Jack Bristow had with him?) is guest-starring on "The Blacklist" tonight. A mere 18 years older.

Page48 said...

Since this is my year for series finales, I finally got around to the last eppie of "Longmire". Sure, I'm about 2 1/2 years late, but I took my time watching the final season.

Now, the final season of MAOS kicks off on Wednesday.

Page48 said...

Gotta say, this is NOT the "Perry Mason" I remember. But, Matthew Rhys was great in "The Americans", so I'm willing to give this one a chance.

Page48 said...

Can you even imagine that it's almost 7 years since Annie Walker shot Henry Wilcox in Hong Kong? One of the most beautiful season finale final scenes that I've ever seen (forgetting the fact the Moby turned out to be just a little bit creepy).

Page48 said...

Rounded to the nearest dollar, here is the amount that I have donated towards posting bail for the "protesters": $0.00

That, apparently, is about $100,000 less than most celebrities have contributed.

uncle111 said...

A big thumbs up!!

Page48 said...

Oh, doggone it, I forgot to take a knee today. I'll just have to smash all my windows and burn my house down to make up for it. And, I'm stealing my TV, that's all there is to it. Don't tase me, bro!

uncle111 said...

:) :) :) :) :) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Page48 said...

Tom Cruise makes a lot of my kind of movies. I'm watching "Oblivion" tonight. Of course, I watched it 6 or 7 years ago, but the beauty of the human memory is that I can't remember more than 2% of it from the first time I watched it. That means I can watch it again tonight as if it was a brand new release.

Speaking of re-watching, I haven't watched "Alias" (other than a few clips on Youtube) for more than 10 years. Hard to believe.

Page48 said...

"Drive All Night". 40 years old already. From "The River", one of the best albums EVER.

Page48 said...

No one does virtue signalling like Hollyweird. It's good to know celebrities are on the case.

Page48 said...

This is how we virtue-signal in the Great White North.

Nothing says "white guilt" like chocolate mint ice cream.

Page48 said...

Cancel Culture keeps coming for J.K. Rowling for speaking what any moron would recognize as common sense. Can't have any of that now, can we? The Woke Twitter mob certainly isn't equipped to deal with the blunt instrument of reality.

And the really good news here is that my tax dollars are funding this CBC garbage. Against my will, I might add. It's not like I get to opt out.

uncle111 said...

I keep hoping that the Wokes will just go away and leave the rest of us alone. They aren't contributing anything useful to humanity, and they just don't know enough to be of any use to anyone but their selfish selves, and even that is debatable.

Page48 said...

Ya gotta love this stuff: The virtue-signalling white guilt crowd says "we're gonna get rid of Aunt Jemima cuz that's just downright racist". The family of at least one of the Aunt Jemima actresses, on the other hand, says "please don't erase Aunt Jemima from history" cuz she is/was important to the community.

Who's gonna win this one, the white-guilt crowd or BLM? Full disclosure: I've eaten a boatload of Aunt Jemima pancakes in my lifetime. Thank you, Aunt Jemima!!

Page48 said...

First thing I thought of when I heard about this story was here is another Jussie Smollett situation. At least it turned out to be not as ridiculous as the Smollett nonsense, but fake news nevertheless.

Now, what can we get ourselves "outraged" about tomorrow?

Page48 said...

Uhhhhhhh, I've never heard of Jenna Marbles. Sorry. Never.

Page48 said...

Pandering to BLM, "Lady Antebellum" dropped the "ntebellum", "Dixie Chicks" dropped the "Dixie" and David Lee Roth dropped the "ee".

If I find out that the number "4" is a racist number or somehow offends a single member of BLM, I hereby pledge to change my handle to "Page8". Sooooooo, please don't burn my car. I do, however, have an old TV antenna that you are welcome to knock over (as long as you agree to load it in the back of the BLM-mobile and take it away)

uncle111 said...

LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think the physical number you need is the 3rd one in on either hand, with the thumb being counted as a finger. :)

Page48 said...

Ha, Uncle, I think you're on to something. It's a CRAZY world we're living in. Hard to imagine it's come to this. I swear they're putting something in the water.

"Alias" came along at just the right time to take our minds off of the endless 911-porn that was on TV night after night back in 2001. I wish we could have a repeat of that right now. It's time. We've earned it.

Page48 said...

BTW, I mentioned David Lee Roth the other day. I watched his appearance on the Joe Rogan podcast and, although he's as crazy as you'd expect, he is an interesting guy. Here's a (NSFW) clip where he discusses becoming a paramedic after his Van Halen days. For real, he went to school and studied to become a paramedic. Amazing stuff really. I admire him for that.

Page48 said...

Current Status: checking my privilege

Page48 said...

Well, "Fringe" was great, "Almost Human" didn't really get much of a chance, and now JH Wyman is back in the ring to take another swing with "Debris". I mentioned this one before, but now it seems that NBC is going ahead with this series. Whether or not it makes it past the 13 episode mark remains to be seen.

I don't recognize any of the actors listed on the show's IMDB page, which is kind of disappointing, but I wasn't familiar with anyone on "Fringe" either, back in 2008.

The good news here, IMO, aside from Wyman returning to TV, is that this is on NBC and not a premium cable or streaming platform. I'm always willing to root for network TV, especially at a time when there is very little to cheer about for any of these guys.

Page48 said...

Doggone it, I was hoping to spend my holidays in CHOP this summer. I heard they had a great new restaurant and I was dying to try it. Catch some of the CHOP nightlife. Treat myself to a relaxing stay in one of those swanky CHOP hotels. Now they've gone and spoiled everything.

Page48 said...

This woke white chick would like to "Shut down all police movies and TV shows. Now." because, apparently, she know what's good for you and what isn't. Personally, I think shutting down her newspaper should come first.

Page48 said...

Once we've axed all the cop shows, we can get to work on making sure our superheroes are all of the woke variety.

Pardon me while I check Bruce Wayne's privilege. Is it true that Alfred is an old white guy? Which washroom does Robin use? These are things we need to consider.

uncle111 said...

Woke has nothing to add to anything but a woke person's ego.

Page48 said...

Now I know what Olivia Dunham meant when she said "I just want to go back to before".

This comment is literally about nothing more than grabbing the 1,000th comment on an LTA post for the first time in history.
