Alias- Season 5 DVD

So Alias fans, the day has finally come when we have been given an official release date for Season 5. The big day is November 21, 2006, and Amazon has it to pre-order for $27.99. From what I have been able to find out, there will also be some great bonus footage:

Celebrating 100 Episodes
Legend of Rambaldi
Heightening the Drama: The Music behind Alias
The New Recruit: On set with Rachel Nicols
Blooper Reel
Deleted Scenes
And much, much more!

There are only 4 DVD's in this seasons box (hence teh cheaper price versus close to $50 for past seasons), but the footage about Rambaldi may shed some light on some questions and lingering thoughts regarding that storyline!

Let me be the first to take issue with the subtitle of the DVD set: "The Complete Fifth Season".

How about:
1)The Complete Shortened Fifth Season
2)The Incomplete Fifth Season
3)The Butchered Fifth Season
4)The Truncated Fifth Season
5)The Condensed Fifth Season
OR my favourite,
6)The Network Screwed Us Fifth Season?

yes, page48, you're right. As I was typing the post I thought how ironic that the title would be "the COMPLETE fifth season", however that's always what they name the titles so people don't confuse with other DVD's. Often shows like "Friends" will have DVD released with only certain episodes, "Best of", etc. But yes, the title did strike me as somewhat humerous.

Although 22 episodes would have been better than 17, it was not fully ABC's fault. Jennifer took two months off of work. Thats about the time it takes to make 5 episodes... so wheather or not ABC decided to cut the season, it would have been shortened.

Um there's also going to be a Complete Box Set with all 5 seasons in the Rambaldi Box it looks pretty sick and I already got mine pre-ordered.

All I can say is their Rambaldi extra better not mess up my effort to straighten out their Rambaldi mess!! It's going so well, too. Such good stuff; ties everything together very nicely.

As always Page 48 you are very funny! I love your more accurate titles! I like this one the best though “The Butchered Fifth Season” it conveys the pain and severity the network had on the show and fans quite well!!!

Anon- ABC planned initially for JG’s maternity leave and in the beginning intended for a full 22 episodes which could have been shot in time. However after hiatus they ended the show and then took an axe to Alias and chopped it to 17 episodes thus bringing Alias back later then expected so it would still end in May.

lisa- go to Amazon and type Alias-The complete Fifth Season and it should come up.

As far as the shortened season, I just don't know what to say. We all know that Alias' ratings had been slipping in the past, so the cancellation of the show was not THAT big of a surprise (still upsetting though). However; why the season was ended early with fewer episodes than previously scheduled is still up in the air I think. And this is something we may never know. It seems like perhaps they were unable to tape as many episodes as usual because of Jennifer Garner's maternity leave (however she only took 6 weeks, shorter than the usual 8 or 12). Now is this the reason for the shorter season, who knows, and maybe we will get some answers when the new season comes out (the commentary and behind the scenes stuff is a great way to find out a lot of things about the show), but the simple fact is that at least we all have this blog to hash things out and air our grievances!

Hey, GS. Did you get my email about the S5 DVD Update yet? I sent it before you posted this. If not, you or anyone can use this link to check out my post on the s5 news and the complete collection news:

I just preordered the full set. I applied and got an Amazon Visa and got a 30.00 credit applied to the card. That with free s/h brought my total down to $109.99.
