Do The (Plot) Twist (A Picture Article)

(Guest writer srg-alias aka SReneeG)
"Sydney, I was not that agent. Your mother was."
Nine little words that rocked the world of Sydney Bristow. Exactly halfway through season 1 we were hit with this shocker. Besides the pilot where Syd learned that SD-6 was "the enemy she thought she was fighting" and her fiancee was killed, this was the first real life changing moment we witness in her life. Her image of a mother she's had in her head for almost 20 years is shattered, and all of a sudden her father is no longer a mysterious suspect but a KGB victim. In the episodes after The Confession called The Box Pts. 1 & 2, Syd and Jack have to work together to save all their SD-6 coworkers from one of our favorite baddies, McKennas Cole (Quentin Tarantino). It's at this point that we start to see a relationship develop between the two of them, something that could have only happened once the truth was told. I know we've talked about plot twists before, but which ones do you feel impacted Syd's relationship with her loved ones (friends and family) the most?

Thanks Jenn for the picture!

Yeah I agree with you jenn, not much can compare to losing 2 years of your life! I actually didn't start watching Alias until season 3, and one of the things that drew me in was reading somewhere that that was the season 2 cliffhanger. I wish I had started watching earlier so I could have been shocked along with everyone else, but I thought that was pretty awesome to have a plot twist so huge.

Not many people have talked about this before (probably because it didn't end up being true), but in the second episode of season 4 when it was revealed that Irena was the one that put the contract out on Syd's life (later of course we found out she was setup), at the time that was another jawdropping moment for me. I never in a minute thought it would be Irena, even though there were clues leading up to that guy confessing that I noticed when rewatching. The first time I saw that I remember thinking "wow, Alias can still surprise me!" That twist definitely changed the dynamic between Syd and Jack and also created a slight wedge between Syd and Nadia since Nadia didn't know.
