War of the Baddies

We are still blind when it comes to who P5 is and what they are looking for. We are still in the dark when it comes to the objectives of several characters; Irina, Renee, Peyton, Grace, Sloane, Jack. We are mulling over thousands of questions; who, what, where, when, why and how. It’s never ending with Alias and we are all crossing out fingers that our inquiries will be answered by series end. Theories have been circulating since the last episode and I want to explore some of them. One I found to be every plausible was launched by our very own Robetron.

I whole-heartedly agree with a theory suggested by Robetron. He states:(the pink is me...hehe)

“I am absolutely behind the theory that the 12 major government agencies that now run P5 were either behind Elena and the Covenant, and maybe even the Alliance, or (and this is my favorite) that they were competing bad-guys who have manipulated the whole cast into wiping the competition out so that they may achieve the biggest agenda of them all.

I have no idea what that would be, but it seems to me that "the greatest power" - a-la Rambaldi prophecy-better fits the 12 major Intelligence Agencies in the world, even more than a big red ball of toxic water in Svogda. Syd may be destined to render them "unto utter desolation," even at the cost of her sister's life. How did I get on that? Oh, yeah: Lauren Reed. No, I believe the writers knew what they were going to do with her all along; they were just really sneaky about warming us up to her, knowing full-well that everyone would hate her at first. Maybe they didn't know how much information would be channeled through her character, but they were clearly drawing us in before, and for the purpose of, the shock of seeing her with the sniper riffle.Actually, now that I think about it, I think the NSC (and the DSR?) was probably staffed with people who did not question authority, who always did things by the book, and would eventually be easy pickin's if they discovered that they were being controlled by P5. Even Kendall was probably duped, along with Dixon, who put all of the security protocols in place as acting director of the L.A. division of the CIA. If Sloane was involved with P5 before the Alliance, it is likely that Jack knew about them too. (I believe Jack knew of P5). Perhaps this is the reason why Jack forced Syd through project Christmas in the first place: to "give [her] a fighting chance," something neither Vaughn's father, nor Renee Rienne's father provided for them directly. Hmmm. Now I've talked myself into thinking that Jack knew about P5, perhaps about Vaughn's "private" investigation all along. (Yes, I think he did). Maybe this is how Irina knew about Vaughn too, who then began an effort to become a double agent for P5 in order to protect Sydney.”
Awesome Robetron! Phew, it's a lot to take in.
Related to this- If Sloane knew of P5 and so did Jack and Irina and each knew of Vaughn’s investigation, is it possible that Sloane knew that Vaughn was really Michaux? Is it possible that Jack knew?

Aside, suppose we are dealing with dueling baddie organizations. Suppose two or more organizations are vying for world domination and have been using APO, Sydney Bristow and the gang to rid the world of their competition. Perhaps the group that is blackmailing Sloane wanted Dean dead to rid them of competition. Perhaps Peyton sold Dean out, or was playing double agent to another group. Take into consideration that these agencies are using APO to bring each other down. Did the Covenant not take the place of the Alliance as ultra-baddie in Season 2-3? And was the Covenant not replaced by P5?

Alliance of 12 ---> Covenant ---> P5

All we do know for sure is that 12 government agencies have been infiltrated by a baddie or several baddie organizations. What isn't clear is whether P5, the agency blackmailing Sloane and whoever Irina is working for are 3 separate entities or one large one.

Okay, Robetron, come back and clean up my mess. Is this the gist of what you were saying? Anyone else got any ideas. Whatcha thinkin’?

Well... DSR was what I meant, but I was writing at 1:30 in the AM.

:D

Other than my comments about Lauren probably not knowing anything until the middle of S-3, I think you pretty much got the idea, but I'll expand a little on the theme.

I'm not convinced that there might be other rival organizations dueling over who can influence APO to destroy the other in our current story. My theory is based in the past.

P5 was started by Joeseph Mueller, the guy who made the prototype of the Rambaldi device. He started P5 thirty years ago. P5 recruited specialists to translate, decode, and put together 15th century manuscripts (called Rambaldi manuscripts in other seasons - anyone notice how thye have avoided his name this season?). As these specialsts began to accomplish their jobs, they were having "accedents" and dropping off like flies. Bill Vaughn (Papa Micheaux) flees France and takes a new identity - strangely taking a job with the CIA (?!?) Also thirty years ago, Sloane was recruited to decypher a 15th century manuscript while he was working for the CIA. The CIA somehow betrays Sloane in his eyes, and the next thing we know he is heading up SD-6, part of the Alliance of 12. He fakes his wife's death and leaves bread crumbs that lead to the destruction of the Alliance.

This is where my theory really kicks-in full throttle. I think Sloane was a double agent sent in to the Alliance by P5, those of the CIA who "betrayed" him.

Come forward two years. Sloane somehow manages to get "pardoned" and became legitimize in the philanthropic community. Was this the influence of P5 on government officials, as we have seen again most recently?

Now there is another organization rearing its ugly head, the Covenant, secretly headed by Elena Devrevco, who was keeping Irena and torturing her for information about Rambaldi artifacts, their location, and how to find them. we know Irena is associated with P5, but we just don't know when that association started. Maybe Elena was funded by P5; maybe they were rivals. Both theories are plausable. Neverhtless, Lauren's comments just before dying reveals someone manipulating Syd (and by implication, the rest of her teammates). Could this be the influence of P5 from deep within the CIA? How did Vaughn first catch wind that some red-haired crazy person was talking about a Mueller device? Was the case handed to Vaughn because he was involved with P5 at one time?

Everything that our cast has done as a result of orders coming from Langly must now be suspect! Everything they have done to bring down other bad-guys may now be seen as a manipulation.

Can Syd and the other patriotic agents ever be safe?! In a few months, we will know.

-R.

or...

maybe Sloane never knew who it was that blackmailed him into getting involved with SD-6, only that it was some of the highest ranks of the CIA, hence his belief that the CIA betrayed him.

Just a posibility.

Heartbreaking is right! i just watched that eppy on DVD. That is one of my favorite moments, but my ultra all time fav- The hug in the parking garage when Vaughn narrowly escapes the bomb on the plane with Sark. Perfect song, perfect moment. Love it!

Robetron: Didn't Sloane join The Alliance/SD-6 because he thought the CIA/government to be corrupt? And he also joined SD-6 so he could continue his search and research about Rambaldi in private, not being restricted by The CIA.

You know, Sloane has dedicated 30 years of his life to Rambaldi. Constantly searching for new clues/artifacts regarding Rambaldi's end game.

My point is that I don't think Sloane was blackmailed into joining the Alliance, he did that because of his obsession of Rambaldi.
