God Will-ing

Sun-bleached California bed-head with a wrinkled shirt, ear pressed to the phone, right hand scratching out leads on a ketchup stained napkin. He comes into the apartment swinging a bag, dropping a sack of hamburgers on the counter, smiling at Sydney-the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen. Those are the dearest memories we have of Will Tippin. He was the supportive best friend/investigative reporter pining after Sydney while trying to track down the individuals responsible for her fiancĂ©’s murder. Good Will Tippin.

After an adventuresome and nearly deadly investigation into SD-6, Will eventually learns of Sydney’s secret and about the organization that killed Danny. Jack saves him from meeting a similar fate, instead fingering him as a heroin addict. But, after washing many a dish at Francie’s restaurant, and thanks to his secret Sydney-love nemesis, Vaughn, Will goes on to join the CIA as a desk analyst.

He later shares a kiss with Francie over wine and steaming lobsters, only to find Francie has become Alison Doran, a Covenant agent. He is accused of being a double himself, before being stabbed and left for dead in Sydney’s apartment. Then, two years later his peaceful Wisconsin existence, thanks to Witness Protection, is turned upside down by a supposedly dead Sydney Bristow. Without hesitation, he sports a fake “early Stones” British accent and accompanies Sydney on a journey to find the Rambaldi cube. He gets his revenge with Alison and returns to Wisconsin, but not before bedding Sydney in an emotional, Vodka-induced trip down memory lane.

It has been whispered that Bradley Cooper will return as the valiant, but reluctant-in-love, Will Tippin, to end the Alias series. It has been posted that Agent Thomas Grace will investigate old Witness Protection files in order to dig up dirt on Prophet 5 and a familiar face will return to help him out. Let us remember that Will, aside from being a sharp newspaper reporter, moved rapidly through the CIA ranks as a research analyst. He was privy to vast amounts of underworld information and it can be assumed that his character will be reprised because of his knowledge.

In the thick of his CIA stint Will was researching Kabir, the leader of a Middle Eastern terrorist group in cahoots with Sloane. Will gathered intel that lead to the CIA’s infiltration of Kabir’s camp, simultaneously rendering CIA Standford-educated specialists speechless. Will had ties to Andrian Lazarey, who was one of his informants he knew only as St. Aidan. St. Aidan would lead Sydney right to information on her sister. And though he maybe hammering out construction blueprints in the mid-west, and dating the painter next door, Jonah aka Will, could be back with some intriguing information for the CIA and a shoulder for Syd. Over the period of 5 years Will was in contact with Jack, Sydney, Vaughn, Sark, Alison and Lazarey; that is a wide variety of contacts both personal and professional. There is bound to be a connection made between Will’s old research and APO’s current investigation into Prophet 5.

What do you think? What role do you see Will playing in the P5 scenerio, aside from returning as Syd's best friend? (What do you suppose will be his reaction to the baby? *Picture his face when he learned of Syd and the CIA*)

COUNT DOWN TO ALIAS: 47 DAYS (Thanks Jenn)

haha, I agree jenn, it's that moment and his completely flabbergasted scream that makes Rendevous one of my favorite Alias episodes ever! I always look forward to it in my rewatching of season 1. I love the outtake of that too, him and Jen just start CRACKING up, it's hilarious! :) I could definitely see Will's past knowledge coming into play and important in bringing down p5. He's proven himself as a very smart guy, especially when it comes to research... sometimes too smart for his own good. I suppose I would have liked to have been surprised by his return, but I don't mind that being spoiled (even if it is just rumors), I can't wait to see Will again!

Since I haven't seen S5, not much to add in the way of "how is Will involved or what info does he have" but I just had to comment on my favorite Will scenes ever- when he and Syd go under cover and he does the British accent. How hilarious was that??! (Actually, I think that one should be on TNT either today or early next week). When he's replaying the conversation to Syd ("I'm here... she's here... We made it!"), I crack up everytime. Here's hoping Will gets to do some more undercover work with the new SpyMomma. :)

I really like the idea that Will could help with something from what he researched while at the CIA! I think that would be a really easily believable way to get him back for a few episodes at the end! I loved his character, and was sad to see him go. It would be great if the research he was involved in helped to wrap things up!

haha, yeah I agree w/ mike, I prefer Will as Syd's friend rather than love interest as well. A little OT, I saw Wedding Crashers for the first time last night and Bradley Cooper was great! I'm so not used to him swearing though as Will, which is funny, but he's great at playing a real ass too I guess lol :)

Girlscout, I like your theory that Will has info regarding P5. (I'm not sure that Will understands the full scope of his intel; if in fact he has intel.) Wasn't it Vaughn who helped Will get his "official" job at the CIA after he did such a good job of researching Project Christmas? Could Vaughn have been using Will to uncover info on his father and P5? Could Vaughn be with Will right now? Lots to think about!!!!!

I'm sorry...was that your theory jenn, or girlscouts?

I actually think Cooper is a better actor over-all than Vartan is. If Will makes a come-back, I hope it is in an active role, like he did in season three. That was my favorite Will-scene, when he and sid showed up in costume at the hotel desk and he said in a purposely obnixious British accent, "Yeah, I'm here; she's here; we made it." --Classic. (Before anyone gets offended, I mean obnoxious as compared to Rachel's very well done accent in "Bob.")
-"Robby"

Enjoying the Will chatter, especially because I'm re-watching season one every morning on the treadmill. Will and Francie gave so much to round out Syd's life. I love how Syd can be about to "go in" to an assignment and she's on the phone, counseling Francie about her love life. And later, after Will learns the truth about Syd's job, about how she'll dab makeup on a bruise and then look at him and say, "Does it show?" Those touches are so great!

One thing hit me in my review of season one--In season four, wasn't Sydney surprised in the "flashback" episode (when she was pretending to be Irina to jog her ailing dad's memory) to learn that "Laura" knew Jack was CIA? But in season one, early one, Jack tells Syd that "Laura" knew he was CIA, that they "had no secrets from each other." Ha! Little did he know!

Anyway, I love this blog and I love catching up. Keep up the great work and thoughtful discussions!

There's no doubt in my mind. As someone has stated, Will had access to countless information as a CIA desk worker. He might not know that he has info, but then again he didn't know that St. A was Lazarey 'til Syd needed his help. But my gut is telling me that Jack might have some kind of connection to Will. After all as Girlscout posted: "Jack saves him from meeting a similar fate, instead fingering him as a heroin addict." Jack has some concern about what happens to him, he tried countless times to thwart Will's attempt to dig into Danny's death. And remember, he brought in Grace...Grace is the one digging in the Wit. Protect. files......so maybe Jack is the puppetmaster behind Will's return. Maybe he finally needs Will for something that Jack set up in the past. Maybe it's something that connects Jack to Vaughn...or Weiss or Irina. Who knows?

Thanks.

Going with the idea that Will will return and not know why, he'll be the friend that Syd needs and nothing more. I mean she has a child to think about now...there's really no time for her to dap in a relationship, especially one that's always been awkward for her (remember s1).

Maybe Irina will kidnap him to find out the real location of the Horizon? Just playing! :)

Wow, I'm back! How did I ever make it? Got so busy the last few weeks I haven't been reading or blogging! Gots some catching up to do!

I LOVE Will's character! I never liked the idea of Will and Syd together (although Will certainly did). I hope he shows up with an active role in taking down Prophet 5...after all, it was the role he played earlier that made him feel like it was all worth it, not to mention he LOVES it and he GOOD at it! :)

I really don't think it would be right to end ALIAS without him! Go Will!

It's an interesting theory dignan, maybe worthy of a blog article GS? I love Full Disclosure too, one of my fav Alias eppies. My impression has always been that the egg fertilization (the guy squirting the liquid in the petri dish) was going on right before Syd & Co. showed up to save the day. Of course that might be wishful thinking that all of that was burned up by Syd, it's tough to decide because they rarely show the travel time between destinations. I honestly would be disappointed if they made her baby Rambaldi's or something like that, it's a bit too X-Files for me (was a great show but it's not Alias). And yes, you'd think Syd and Vaughn would know better to use protection, but obviously the writers didn't plan on JG getting pregnant, so they had to deal w/ real life fitting in with the characters. Any kind of protection is still only 99%, there's always that possibility of a little guy getting through. I know it's not real life, but if anyone else is a Friends fan, you'll remember that Rachel got pregnant even though she and Ross used protection.

I am on the Rambaldi baby theory. Give me 30 minutes and I will wipe something up.

i absolutely love will tippin! i am watching season 1 again right now and i just love his acting, his character, and everything the writers do with him - i too want syd to be with vaughn but i actually liked the scene where they kissed in s1 - i like the drama it created and the tension and i loved how they got past it and just love each other as friends (well i mean we all know will's feelings continued...)i am glad that they didn't air the deleted scenes from s1 where will talks to francie about syd - and i REALLY wish we could have seen will with the REAL francie more than just the one night - although thats part of what made it such a heartwrenchingly good plotline....would love to see him come back for the 100th ep or ANYTIME!!! i haven't seen kitchen confidential but would like to check it out. and i agree it WAS weird seeing him in wedding crashers!!!
