Can Alias Be Saved?

As I mentioned in “Let’s Talk Updates,” JJ Abrams is returning to the fold to finish out his second very successful television series (Felicity being the first). Though it has not been made clear how many episodes JJ will actively be working on, it is safe to say that we will notice the return of his presence. In several interviews with Abrams over the years, he has talked about his idea for Alias, how deep the story of Sydney Bristow goes and about some of the scenes and stories that he has used on the show. A heavy mixture of real life drama, over-the-top action and eerie mystery makes Alias both Lost and Felicity combine. Felicity ended as we had all expected, as curly haired Felicity, played by Keri Russel, finished her final year in college. Lost will no doubt end when the survivors of the will-fated Oceanic flight finally escape the haunted island. But how will Alias take its final bow, after mid-season cancellation and the dwindling action of a pregnant star?

As it would seem, all that was once against Alias is no more. Jennifer Garner will return, in stellar shape and JJ Abrams will be back at the helm. It is the Alias of ole, is it not? So, can Alias be saved?

It can be argued that the show took a turn in season 4. JJ was working on Lost, and prepping for Mission Impossible 3, and the chemistry between Sydney and Vaughn seemed to dwindle has Jennifer and Michael’s personal relationship did. Sprinkle that with a large red floating ball and the show could have been seen as jumping the shark. Fans worried it wouldn’t make it back as rumors of Jennifer’s pregnancy circulated in May of 2005. But the show returned, with a pregnant star, a dead love and 4 newcomers. YIKES! However, things have been looking up for Alias- Vaughn made a brief return and is bound to come back from the dead. Sydney will be birthin’ her baby as soon as you can say “Roger that” and SpyMommy has returned, leaving us with more unanswered questions and the taste of the old Alias in our mouths. With JJ's vision leading the way and Sydney's abs rocking the scene, is it possible for Alias to come back from the depths? Is it possible for them to dig themselves out of the hole they so Rambaldicly dug for themselves? Can Sydney save the show, as well as the world? If higher ratings are sparked, could ABC change their minds? Or will a new network be intrigued by the cult following Alias has acquired and look to give Abrams and the gang a second chance? Is there more to tell?

What do you think? LONG LIVE ALIAS!

First of all, When you put all those hurdles that Alias has overcome into writting it really shows what a great show it is and what a following it has. The show as well as its viewers have held tight through alot of not so great circumstances which means this is one FABULOUS show!!! Second, I totally think that the show can redeem itself and will end just as wonderfully as it began, especially with JJ in the mix. But, I wonder if the ratings go up if that will cause Jenn to want to stay. With a new baby and hubby do you think that she is wanting to gracefully bow out?? The sellfish part of me would want her to continue no matter what the cost, LOL, but of course I understand that she has a family that comes first in line and ALIAS is simply her job.

YAHOO Sara!! I just checked in on your blog today. You are so right. Part of me thinks she will miss Sydney so much. She has said so, so many times and part of me thinks she is soooo madly in love with Vi and Ben that she's thinking "Sydney who?" I hope Alias can stay around in some form. It seems to good to go to bed.

So I was reading on MSN's TV blog at work tonight (I work the night shift and have to stay awake somehow!) Anyway MSN is reporting the following:

"Alias'" Ron Rifkin won't be unemployed for long. After he's done playing "Alias" manipulator Arvin Sloane this spring, Rifkin will step into the role of Uncle Sol, the brother of the family matriarch of "Brothers & Sisters," an ABC drama pilot for next season.

As much as I would love to see Alias continue in some fashion, it seems like the cast is moving on finding new things to do...

*going to cry in the corner now...* ;)

I am very excited to know that JJ will be working once again on the epis. One word comes to mind when I think of that man...redemption. He was the creator of this fantastic, whirlwind of intrigue and if anyone will help bring it to a great finale it will be him. I must say that I have extremely high expectations for these last few epis as well as for the finale. I am sure I am not the only one. I am very curious to see what will happen with Jen after this because alias was so big for her career. I hope that it isn't like the deal that happened with the "Friends" cast where they couldn't get anything new because they have always been the "Friends"cast. I hope that she is able to get another regular show or maybe even a sitcom. I love seeing her every week. Speaking of which...why isn't Alias on TNT anymore? I was devastated.

PS Sara is an award winning actress who wants to do "the" monologue from S3. Is there anyway of putting a soundclip or a little video clip of her on the site? She doesn't know I wrote this but I know she would love to do it. Also she has a little outfit with Alias on it for Asher:)

After the great punch of season five's first half, I definitely think that Alias will go out with a sledge hammer. Having JJ back is going to be just heavenly. He's shown over the years that he has such great talent and focus and vision that no matter what the material, he'll send a show home.

And from what's floating in cyberspace, Alias is going to rock our boats and hotwire our alias fire as the series comes to an end. So all I can say is that I'm here, I'm staying and I'm going to ride out the season no matter the cost or reason.

Desiree, I would love to post a sound clip. I am not sure how to do it, but I can check in with blogger.com and see if there is a way of hooking it up! I just love Sara. She's been one of my very loyal bloggers and I would love to have perform a piece for us!

I totally agree Mike, I'd rather Alias end w/ a JJ bang this year than have it keep going but with weaker characters and storylines. I think most fans would agree that Alias is first and foremost about Sydney/JG, and I can totally understand that JG would not want to be the star of an hour drama every week now that she's started a family. Even though I will miss it dearly, I'd rather Alias end this year w/ Syd still as the star and some sort of closure to all the questions we've had for the last 5 years.

i am ready for alias to go....before you ban me from the blog i love this show so much its scary....BUT i also love jennifer g for more than just who she is on alias....she has made such a great impression on everyone she works with, is always sweet and nice, down to earth and private. i love that her and ben and the baby are in GA (well not anymore i guess since she is at work again) just laying low and i really hope they are so happy!!! i think season 5 is going to end in an awesome way and we will have 5 seasons on dvd to watch and re-watch again and again. i would rather it go out strong than start to just get really weak and trickle away...i think jennifer is going to be a great mom and hopefully we will see more of her in other ways, maybe some more movies (can't WAIT for catch and release to come out!!!) i would love to see vartan/vaughn get a tv show though....or more movies...anything to keep him on our screens!!!
